It does depend on what one needs one's footwear for. If not wearing them often, then 25 squidders is fine.  I can't wear them, my legs and feet get really cold .......... even when I wear trousers.

Also, these days, I'm not safe at a height  ;)

I have to be very careful about what shoes I buy. I have weak ankles and a very high instep. As a child doctors whated to break both my ankles and reset them.  My mother refused so I spent my childhood wearing special inserts, in my shoes. This straightened my ankles but did not strengthen them. The inserts also gave me the high instep.

I cannot wear high heels or cheap shoes and I can turn my ankle in bare feet. Footwear costs me a fortune.

We still have jumble sales and car boot sales ( in the season) where I live - it's a rural area so maybe they are more prevalent in villages? I keep stuff for years and years (not just clothes....) - but as I continue to buy small amounts of new stuff ( or charity shop stuff) my wardrobe just gets bigger! Now and again I decide if I haven't worn something for several years I'll get rid of it but then suddenly there is an occasion when it's needed! I agree better to buy good quality stuff - and getting it 2nd hand if funds don't permit buying ot new. I've got some fantastic (2nd hand) clothes from e-bay! Haven't bought shoes from there though....

I try to buy quality clothes, I have even got a few Primark pieces that have lasted well over 8 years, there stuff isn't all throw away fashion, but child labour is abhorrent.  I only tend to buy anything these days if it needs replacing. Any clothes that don't fit etc I take to the charity shop. I do struggle to buy jeans/trousers long enough being a size 6 manufacturers think when you're small that you have short legs!

I am sure they have changed the size guide. When I was 18 and weighed 6 stone, my bust size was 31" and my dress size was 10.  Now the charts have it as size 6.

What's happened.  ::)

Manufacturers admit to altering sizing in order to not make those carrying extra weight or who have broadened, from feeling upset  ::).

I often hold up a dress and say to DH "I could have got into that once" and he replies "Once.  Only Once."  ;D

I just wish sizes were uniform across all shops for women as I can't remember the last time something fitted well in the size I have brought for many years and can still wear x

Me too. To get round this I look for my European size on the label, which is EU 38. This may show as either UK 10 or UK 12 depending on the shop.
