Help please- still itching and have changed to new HRT!
« on: March 02, 2019, 06:29:36 PM »

Sorry ladies, it's me again!

I have just changed from Oestrodose to Evorel 50 patches as I had intense itching. I thought it was the Oestrodose but the itching has started again since I changed to Evorel. It did subside a bit when I first changed over, and I had left the Utrogestan off for a night to see if it was that. However, the morning after I hadn't taken the Utrogestan, I was still itching🙄

My question is - is this fluctuating hormone levels or is it the Utrogestan? If it is the Utrogestan what can I do about getting progesterone?  I really hope I don't have to change again as I am feeling much calmer😫 and the doctors will be fed up of me!

I'm really nervous about stopping both hormones as I'm scared about the anxiety coming back  (which I  have had for 10 years since peri). I'm 55 and haven't had a period for 2  and a half years.

I'd be so grateful for any advice as this itching is driving me crazy!!!!

Thanks again xx

Itching may be caused by a drop in oestrogen levels.  4 me it was the insteps as I took off socks and stepped into the bath.  Two nights ago,  all the way down my left arm and last night, across my back.  Maybe a cooling lotion to spread where it itches? Sometimes the itching is inside rather than on the outer skin  :-\

Thanks CLKD. The itching is mostly on the inside, you're right.

I cut my patch in half earlier to see if it would improve but it's still there, a d I have taken 2 a antihistamine 🙄.  Do you think I should go up then, rather than decrease the oestrogen and should I still use the Utrogestan tonight?

Thanks x

Hi jules53,

I got intense itching all over my body but worse on my scalp.  Unfortunately it was the oestrogen causing it, I tried 3 Femoston, femseven sequi and finally Oestrogel and utrogestan.  I found when I increased the Oestrogel the itching became worse.  I have stopped all hrt as advised by my GP to see if that stops the itching and it has now reduced after 2 weeks.  It's a real shame as the hrt was helping in other ways, so I'm not sure how to proceed.  When I first experienced the itching I posted on here but most people associated it with low oestrogen, rather than too much.  It kept me awake at night.  I am also peri.

Itching for me is s symptom of low or fluctuating oestrogen . I appreciate that's not the same for everyone .

I think you may have confused your body as you have swapped and changed doses over the past few weeks. You need to stick at one dose for a good few weeks before changing. X

Thanks for your replies ladies.  Apologies Emmapurple I've only just seen your reply. I'm glad you solved the problem if the itching.

Stellajane, I will try what you have suggested and leave the Utrogestan for a few days to see if it's that and  I'll stay at the same dose of Estrogen. Thanks x

Hi Jules 53. Have you mentioned the itching to the GP? Sometimes intense itching can be down to a liver dysfunction so it's always worthwhile asking for a blood test just to check.

Hi Taz

Yes I have mentioned it to the GP and she  ran several blood tests including liver function which were all fine.

I think I have really confused my body by swapping and changing😥I didn't take the Utrogestan last night to see if it's that and will leave it out for a few days.

Thanks for your reply. Jules x

You could also use a good quality moisturiser on the areas which itch.

My ears itch: deep down  >:(.  Even after syringing.  And don't get me started on under my rib cage when I have a cold  :o
