I have just finished a month on Sertraline and thought I would report back.  My moods are generally much improved - before my mood would be a 3 or 4 (out of 10) and a lot of days were a real struggle but now my moods are probably around a 7.  Side effects have been minimal - a bit of an upset stomach for the first few days.  Anxiety was still an issue for the week before my period but the Sertraline seemed to support my mood so although I felt anxious my real lows didn't materialise.  Yay!

I've been on Sertraline for a few months now. I am feeling so much better too.
I had a bad start-up for about 2 weeks, with worse anxiety and nausea. But I persevered and now my mood is about an 8 or 9 most days.
I'm glad to hear that its helping you too. x

Hi Birdy.  I was just so low and unmotivated on most days (even minor chores required a huge effort).  My world was different shades of grey (and not the sexy kind!).  Now I am seeing in colour again

I have just been given a script for sertraline , and like you I'm too scared to take it.  My anxiety has been off the scale, and two weeks of it possibly getting worse is more than I think I could cope with.

I think it's past experience with those first couple of weeks that is scary  I've always pushed through it in the past but add meno into the mix and well..were just scared of raising our anxiety any higher than it is.  It's a viscious  circle really.

It was the nausea that stopped me taking ADs, I was told to push through those 2 weeks but as an emitophobe that was impossible.  Escitalopram didn't give me any problems ........... PHEW!

Clkd. Good to hear you've taken the  escitalopram with no side effects. He prescribed a low dose start as my main fear is escalated suicidal thoughts.
He said it's generally a well tolerated drug in his experience  but it's more expensive and that's why it's not a first line treatment

Are you still on it? I see  from your posts you have said you find the medications  you are on crucial to your MH.

Yes, its definitely a vicious circle.  I'm going to get the tablets, and just leave them in the cupboard for now. I just can't risk raising the anxiety further, I think it will be the end of me, for sure.

Its so nice to have other people to talk to about this, but I'm so sorry for all of you ladies going through it too, its horrible

My anxiety didn't increase at all.  I felt better within a week and I am not apt to be affected by a placebo effect.  I'm very pragmatic and more than a bit cynical

I wish I had taken them months ago.  I have suffered reproductive depression since the age of 11 and I am now 46.  My mental health has been a real challenge at times

I'm glad you're feeling better Rosepetal63. Can you remind us - are you also taking HRT as this (hormonal treatment) is the first line of treatment for reproductive depression and especially at menopause? Sorry to hear you have suffeered for so long....
