Glad you got sorted Pmj28. I never found trimethoprim worked for me, especially only for three days. I always had to have a stronger kind and for seven not three days.  Hopefully you will begin to feel better very soon

Sometimes the antibiotic makes you feel ruff on top. Not the one you're on now, don't know much about that one but the trimethoprim is known for that.

Doesn't do much for the whole serious antibiotic resistance issue when GP's give you a random antibiotic for 3 days and then change it when culture results come in. They ought to wait a day and give you the right one for the strain you presented with, instead of the scattergun approach, drives me mad! Rant about GP's over!

My reaction too. When I get these symptoms it is almost always on a Friday or sat when it is impossible to get a GP appt. The urogynaecologist who saw .e in November said that 3 day courses of AB's are not appropriate. They don't do the job.

Hi ladies, I was back at doctors to day was not well over the week end shivering and hot . Got to do another sample and see if there is any there , so could mean more antibiotics If don't improve then i have to have blood done, just so feed up of not feeling well .

R U having treatment for vaginal atrophy as well?  Your GP needs to refer you to a Urologist to make sure that you haven't a deep seated infection.

No , I have not heard of vaginal atrophy  will see what my results are and will ask about it

I am using Vagifem now to try and reduce my recurrent  UTI problems. Vaginal atrophy symptoms are very similar to UTI ones.

I really hope that this time they are testing your sample properly Pmj28. The usual test is not enough. Over the course of eight months my samples were repeatedly just showing just a UTI but eventually after so many one after the other one of the GP's sent the sample for further testing which eventually showed a hard to treat bacteria. After two rounds of a very strong antibiotic it finally stopped them and I was also put on Vagifem which helps a lot of women who have repeated UTI's. That was nearly two years ago and all good since then. Hope you start to feel better soon as it is so draining

Thank you for your reply, helps to know your not alone. I hope it will be sorted soon it is really draining should be at work to day but not gone in don't know if I have a virus as well just feel so run down .

If you feel like the symptoms are that of a virus then it may be, as Hardwick suggests, a deeper rooted infection than is showing on the Lab. tests. Do ask your GP exactly what they are testing for and exactly what is growing in the Lab..  Do ask for appropriate vaginal atrophy treatment too even if it's an infection.  Sooner it is started in the vaginal area, the sooner you can over-lap any necessary treatment ;-).  Over the counter pain relief is important too.
