This isn't click bait, I really did look hugely distended.

My history, i'm 51 peri meno. On 1 pump Oestrogel 3 alternate days a week at gyn instruction . This was working a treat. I'm on 14 days 100mg Utro vaginally. Had 3rd one before bed yesterday.

So I have never been pregnant, with one exception...last night. I literally looked 9 months preggers, not even exaggerating.

I've just started bhrt and by day 11 on oestrogel I started bloating up in the tummy area mainly. Now on day 3 of Utro it's a whole other level.

Since starting Utro I have had all over joint pains, blocked nose in the evening, my dry mouth is back, only at night, and night sweats are back which interrupts my good sleep. Bad case of PMT is rearing it's ugly head too.

Can anyone help me either with ways to combat bloating, or any of the other symptoms?
Or answer whether you've had any of these symptoms improve with time?
Is this how it will go on, should I expect 14 days a month of all of the above symptoms?

Also, I have to go to my GP for a repeat script. What tests should I be asking for? As I been cut loose by gyn after one visit, with no ongoing care info so making it up myself as I go along. My gp is very knowledgeable but not on bhrt.

Any help would be golden as I'm starting to crack!

Thanks, guys

It's awful.  My apron dropped a few years ago and by the end of the day I can look and feel huge  :-\ but it goes over-night.  It's not wind 'cos that feels different.  HORMONES  >:(  ::)

I take Deflatine, that helps with trapped wind, and helps my stomach
go back to normal size.
It is soooo uncomfortable and can be quite painful.
Mine has improved, with time , now only get it occasionally. Xx

Hi,

 I have

' all over joint pains, blocked nose in the evening, my dry mouth is back, only at night, and night sweats are back which interrupts my good sleep. Bad case of PMT is rearing it's ugly head too. '

All of the above 2 weeks every month, worse in the 2nd week. I sympathise.

Hia pepperminty,

Thanks for reply.

Are you saying what I think you're saying?
That this isn't going to improve with time, it's par for the course in other words?

Not sure I prefer being on hrt in such a case  :(

It may be that you need a different HRT - would patches bi-pass the gut = less bloating?  Maybe speak with a Pharmacist or put the name of the product you are using into the search box on here to see if others have advice?

Hia CLKD!

I'm taking a very low does of Oestrogel, was quite happy on that for 2 weeks that I'd been applying it. Did start to bloat but did as you suggested, I dropped "Oestrogel bloating" into the search box and results seemed to suggest it would improve, yay for that!

However, the Prog phase where I'm on Utrogestan seemed to indicate more bloating but not sure if it tailed off once the body got used to it.
I'm using the Utro vaginally at 100mg for 14 days as per gyn instructions. My OH asked... Could you do 7 days of 200mg just to get it out of the way? To which I answered...I don't know. Having brain fog really isn't helping me get my head around the whole darn hrt thing.

Hi,

I find some months are worse than others. Symptoms do tend to improve for some. But it is a balancing act. It is quality of life. If you find that the syptoms are not improving your quality of life there are other HRT's that you can try. Also HRt can have health benefits - see DR louise Newson's website.

Personally without it I was a zombie, no sleep, panda eyes, anxiety, and foggy brain. I have more aches with HRT , but I can function.

PMT can improve over time, the trouble is in peri your own hormones are break dancing one minute and doing a slow waltz the next followed by an occasional quick lie down, so there is all that going on in the back ground.
Give it at least 3 months and if it doesn't settle, change the dosage or type or route perhaps.

The oestrogen does sound a bit too low to me (disclaimer - not an expert  ::) )

One of the side effects of progesterone is to slow down your intestines (it relaxes 'smooth muscle' which is what your uterus is, and that makes sense if you are actually pregnant but is a damned nuisance otherwise  :-\ )  It is probably the cause of the bloating.

You may be able to counteract this with diet - I would recommend porridge (any wholegrain oat stuff is good for soluble fibre and also good for cholesterol levels), a daily morning kiwi fruit (this works as well as movicol but harder to overdo it) and a nice cup of coffee (stimulates smooth muscle) to start the day.

Hi guys!

Lots of helpful recommendations there, thank you so much!

I know it's early days(less than 3 weeks)so I'm trying not to focus on the inevitable ups and downs and variations linked to starting a whole new hormone regime. At least that's when I have my normal brain plugged in. The menopause brain however as you all know, which I call my mental-pause brain leads less with logic and more with panic and anxiety.

Today I woke up and feel more like myself. That's to say not tearful or sensitive/delicate, to my OH's relief. Still have disturbed sleep from night sweats from Utro but I can live with that so far. I've had 4 Utro 100mg vaginally to date, so another 10 days for me....yay hooray lol!

The reason for the low dose of Oestrogel is bcz my mum had breast cancer in the 70's and died from it spreading. Luckily I noticed a big difference from day one with one pump Oestrogel. I had the first good nights undisturbed sleep than I've had in ages. So, so far so good. Obv I may need to increase in time if it becomes less effective, will see.

My understanding is that the guidelines for taking Utrogestan is 200mg for 12 days if you are peri, which I am. I have been put on 100mg for 14 days I think again due to family history and also bcz of having a low dose of Oestrogel, less linning will build up so less Utro is required. Guess I will see if I get a bleed after 14 days Utro.

What I'm now wondering is how often should I be having a scan to monitor the linning? And what is the scan? What does it actually involve?

I have my black coffee, also have kiwi's knocking about in the fruit bowl, and I have oats in the cupboard. Will hit the shops and get some deflatine too.

Thanks gals!

 :thankyou: SJ!

That's really reassuring to know.

This is something I am learning quickly is how different we all are as you say. I've been sleeping less good on Utro unlike some. Have had some vivid dreams though, don't know if that part of some strange side effect? :-\
