so many kinds of HRT how do docs decide
« on: February 09, 2019, 08:05:27 PM »

I am about to start using Evorol Sequi patches.... my doc quite happily prescribed them, said give them a go and see what happens, but reading posts on here there are so many different kinds, pills, patches, gel and the Mirena which my GP said i could try if i wanted..

how does a doc decide which to give you first ? is there a difference depending on location, I'm in Scotland ? does anyone up here get the gel ?

They just give you the cheapest first lol!  :cat88:

No, I'm being flippant, or is it true?!...you decided. Maybe they go on what works for most ppl in their care. All I know is that at my surgery I saw several GP'S and they all looked at me like I was an alien with several heads. Even the female ones of the same age as me who you'd think would have a clue.

The male gp's were better in my case, and I have heard others say this too. In my Doc's defence he did refer me to a gyn bcz I have a family history of breast cancer. So off I went with my alien heads to the hospital gyn.

It is a matter of trial & error. It sounds like your doctor is going to be helpful & flexible - so it will depend on how you respond to the first trial. It can be tweaked depending on what if any side effects you experience.

It could be a matter of the price as Turkish delight has suggested (but then we are all well aware of how the NHS need to save money)...

Just keep a note of any side effects & how your symptoms are doing as this will help you decide if you are on the right type.

Patches are generally a good place to start as you do get fewer side effects ( apart from me as I had a bad reaction to the adhesive)  >:( >:(

thanks for all your replies, i was just curious i guess, i think i was lucky to have asked the doc i did, the last female one i mentioned it to said she would give me it if i really wanted to but they would be chasing me in about 18 months to get me back off, i knew this was rubbish so asked the next one i saw and she seems to have more of a clue... i had a wobble about starting and have had them at the side of my bed but am now going for a shower and will stick the first one and see what happens  :)

Hi! some ladies find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.  Something to take to the appt. so that variations can be discussed with the Practice Nurse or GP.

Let us know how you get on?
