Marks on skin
« on: February 04, 2019, 08:21:12 PM »

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone else has this weird symptom, for ages now I have had a red circular mark on my stomach it's four circles that resemble a chain, it's not itchy, raised, scaly or dry and I think there is another one coming on the right side of my stomach too. I went to GP but she didn't take much notice and said it was probably melasma cause by perimenopause but I can't find anything on the web that says melasma can appear on your stomach or that it's red.
I am a bit worried about it so any advice would be appreciated. Thank you x

Check it's not ringworm?
On your stomach where the waist of your trousers might be?
Hot, sweaty, fungal infection easily treatable.
Actually I'm being stupid because you've seen a doctor who has said melasma which I've never heard of and I think a GP would have spotted ringworm! Xx

Not necessarily.  Ringworm is a fungus, nowt to do with worms.  I caught it from leaning on a gate where cows licked  ::)

Looked up melesma :

British Association of Dermatologists - explanation is quite clear here.

Other site:   The British Skin Foundation are the only UK charity that raises money to fund research into all types of skin diseases

Nowt suggests on the belly in red  ::).  Do you have a belt that lays against that area that might rub?  I had that happen years ago ..... it was a gold-coloured linked belt on a skirt which was tight.

I wouldn't be too sure that a GP would recognise ringworm, AgathaC!  It took me three goes to get chilblains on my toes diagnosed. That was three different GPs.

cupcake 44, ringworm was my first thought too. I should think you could treat it with an antifungal cream. Maybe have a word with a pharmacist. If you think it's not in an appropriate place to show to a pharmacist (perhaps too far down on the abdomen!) maybe you could take a photo of it on your phone. Melasma is usually a darkened patch of skin on an area that's exposed to sunlight, it's what I would call age spots. However, you could Google some photos to see if it looks like what you've got.

Could be shingles but as there is no discomfort perhaps not.

What about allergic reaction. Have you changed your laundry products or shower gel??

The pictures on the NHS website look most likely ringworm. Take a look and see.

Can you see a different doc at your surgery?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the suggestions, it's definitely not from a belt because it never fades. I am going to pop and see a pharmacist tomorrow and have booked in to see a different doc on Weds next week.

I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks again xx

Might want to check its not seasonal allergies. My daughter gets red areas especially on her tummy which she just finally had diagnosed as eczema due to all allergies mainly around this time of the year.
