Mmmm I love chips made from new potatoes....something my mom never did, she always used old potatoes, as she put it...🤷‍♀️

I've just threw away my chip pan....so if we have chips, it's either oven chips, which no one really likes, or we get them from the chippy........simples....🙂

Chip pans are dangerous  :(

Chips in the frying pan are OK!

Chip pan - haven't owned one since my first flat after leaving home!  Mum always cooked chips in a frying pan.  I never fry them - only oven chips, either shop bought or homemade.

Thanks ladies, I'm still feeling motivated since starting in January so would love to lose another 2!!
I love chips too, try and stick to once a week (would prefer fortnightly but OH loves a chippy, we now share one instead of one each).
Waffles, potato croquetes another childhood delicacy (I quite liked them).

Yes Foxylady, we always have a portion of chip shop chips between us these days & halve the fish too!  I don't eat the batter, partly as on low gluten diet, partly as chip shops don't seem to be able to cook it properly these days.  Hate that thick, gummy, uncooked flour-water paste inside.  Cooking batter-covered fish properly is one of the things our local chippies did so much better when I was a kid.

Waffles & croquettes never featured in my childhood - I think they probably only came in later.  Love hash browns though.  OH doesn't like them, which I find strange as he is a carb eating machine & seems to like all other forms of potato!  Including the dreaded potato soup!  A Scots "delicacy" he introduced me to.  Like dish water with pepper.  Once was enough!

;D ;D yes wrensong, I remember making potato & leek soup in home economics, think it was flushed down the loo when I got it home!! Again it's not something you hear of now a days. I'm with you re the batter, needs to be properly cooked, we have a great local chippy no problems on that front. Another favourite of mine, still buy them occasionally steak pie, again pastry needs to be properly cooked!

No Foxy - nowt as sophisticated as leeks added to OH's potato soup recipe - bog standard onion & that & the bits of potato just floating in this water-thin, onion-tasting greyish "soup".  Have smelt tastier washing up water!!  And been more inclined to drink it  ;D

Stovies known to you?!  Don't get me started . . !

Speaking of fish and chips, I don't use my local chippie because, walking past their dining area and peering in, I can see that they serve theirs with salad and coleslaw (all on the same plate). Now what's that all about? It proves to me that they know nowt about it. The only correct accompaniments are a pickled onion or gherkin, as any fule no.

Haven't met many fules today  ;) - yet  :D or is that squit?

Shops serve far too large portions overall  :-\ - the waste in the catering sector must be HUGE!
