Oh! Quavers  ;D

My taste buds have altered in recent years.
I don't like tinned fish in brine and maybe there's less sugar in general?

Yes, less sugar, less salt.  But don't think they ever put sugar in tinned tuna!

I'll have a look at the old tins in my pantry - if I remember  ;D

I never fancy fresh tuna  ::)

Can be a bit tricky to get just right - easy to overcook, then a bit tough.  When all the planets align though, it can be so much better than tinned.

Agree CLKD - but if fresh enough, many of them don't taste fishy.

Mackeral fresh from the sea, cooked on the beach  :-*.  With fresh brown bread.

Can't stand the smell of cooking in general other than toast so no cooking in our camper van  ;D

Oh Lordy lord!... ;D .....Vesta curries!  ;D....we thought we were soooo exotic!
We loved them, they had currents in em....as I remember.....wouldn't eat em now mind.... ::)

Oh yes Wrensong, Pilchards were the THING. Remember the bone in the middle?  ;D
And my Nan would always make me sift through the tin salmon to get the bones out.... ;D ;D
Then we smothered it in vinegar.... ;D

Imagine if I dished that up now!..... ;D......they'd say what the hell is that?  >:(....or words to that effect.... ;D .....

Yes Jilly, Vesta curries seemed daring  ;D

Pilchards were the THING?!  Gawd - I never realised!  So we were up there with the trendy crowd?  Yes the bones - ugghh!  Remember the way the tinned salmon skin got compressed into the middle of the steak & turned up, grey & slimy when you cut into it on your plate, though you'd thought you'd got it all off before dishing up?  'orrible!

Yes, vinegar was the thing on tinned tuna long before mayo or salad cream got in there, mashed up before putting into sandwiches.

Yes words to that effect more likely that the more polite version you suggested, on being presented with pilchards these days!

Pot Noodle anyone?  Used to take the curry one to work in my first job.  Dire!

Someone asked about a Scots potato thing earlier - lucky tatties or something - I asked OH who's a Scot & he didn't know of them, but suggested Lees macaroons, which he says were made of potato but sweet with coconut covering.  Sound appalling, but he says delicious!  Have I missed out on a N of border delicacy here ladies?
