I'm about a week into Loestrin 30 and it's working like an absolute dream so far - I feel like I have myself and my life back.

I still feel a bit strung out by my whole experience over the past 4 odd months, both in my own physical being and with the health service. And I'm still trying to come down from the stress of all of that. But I'm back in myself and am slowly and very gradually peeling myself off the ceiling.

I don't think I did too much damage to my personal relationships (with my fiancé and my close friends), and I don't think I damaged my business relationships beyond letting some of them relax a little. Both of which is a huge relief.

But my question is this: last night I had a mega night sweat. I've had these since, maybe November time? And this one was the first since I've been on the Loestrin. So can I still get (some) perimenopause symptoms while I'm taking the combined pill?

As far as I understand it, firstly it isn't an instant effect that you will get from the Pill - ie although it works as a contraceptive straight away suppression of the cycle may take a bit longer? This is definitely the case with the lower oestrogen doses - in fact I am sure I read a paper about this  (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2891973/) - but this paper talks about follicular activity rather than oestrogen levels - and it is the hormonal fluctuations if they are still present that can lead to symptoms.

I really wouldn't worry at this stage as you've only been taking them for a very short while, and let the pills work their magic - here's hoping you have no more sweats once your body has acclimatised....

When your own cycle in peri is very volatile, the pill does still allow symptoms to pop up as it can't suppress the hormones completely. It's still better than when there's no suppression though!

I found that 7 days of the pill was when things really calmed down and then 28 from then would form a cycle that would repeat every 4 weeks in terms of symptom pattern. This was actually helpful as you know what to expect!

Ah, brilliant...thank you!

The bleeding stopped pretty much straight away. Of course, I don't know if that was the pill or if it would have stopped anyway at that point.

But it's not come back (so far) at all. And that's definitely the pill working. I don't feel any of the cramping  I was getting every few days, and the totally constant dull (sometimes less dull) pain in my ovaries has gone. I feel like I've forgotten about that part of my body again, as I'm not constantly aware of it any more.

I also feel totally like myself again, really interested in other people and my work and very, very positive about life. My fiancé said it's nice to see the sparkle in my eyes again.

I've been to the gym a couple of times, but have had to take a few steps back from where I'd got to before all this kicked off big time. It felt flipping amazing to be back. I didn't feel quite confident/strong enough for a run, so I just went for a moderate cycle for half an hour both times. I think I'll try a half hour run this evening. And then try and build up again to where I was before all this happened.

I know that will help me feel confident in my body again. I really need that confidence in my life and for my work. I know that other people really respond to it, and it changes the way we interact.

I've got another big business event coming up at the end of February, so it's a good time to be working towards that again.
