Scan tomorrow!
« on: January 28, 2019, 03:23:51 PM »

hi all

Didn't want to hijack someone elses thread, so posting a new one.

Background, I had a small amount of blood, so small it was more like a pinkish discharge last Thursday evening.  This was on top of my VA symptoms coming back (using Vagifem, was working for quite a while).
So, managed to get an appointment at GP this morning (happened to be there anyway), and have been referred for smear and ultrasound scan, as well as checking urine for UTI.

Have just had a phone call from hospital. Scan is tomorrow morning! :o

So, suddenly feel really apprehensive, although I suppose its good that things are being dealt with so quickly, less time to sit and worry.  I'm a bit worried about the 2 pints of water I'm supposed to retain in my bladder... might be worth investing in a pack of tena lady extra!

does anyone know if I will get the results there and then?  I haven't had time to get my head round it all yet.

I suspect that they will make you wait a while for the results. I am hoping the same for my bone density scan next week but will probably have to wait.

As far as getting the results....well that depends on who is doing the scan. Technically, I've been told, they tech is not supposed to diagnose/tell you what is going on because they can get in trouble if the patient says something like "well the tech told me...." if they hear something else from the doctor....
BUT that's not everywhere and some techs are wonderful about telling you if they see something or not. Hope you get someone that can/will give you some info.

Good luck Jeepers. I had to have a scan before my hysterectomy and sonographer told me there and then that all was ok. So it may depend on the experience of the sonographer and whether a second opinion is needed.

Thank you ladies, I really appreciate the support here, makes me feel less alone.

I'll try to drink lots, whether it stays in my bladder is another matter though!

I had a scan last week but they wouldn't tell me the results, I was worried as last time I was told, apparently the company who did the scan were taken over by someone and it's now policy not to tell. Thankfully my results are all ok.

Hope yours are too x

That's a really quick appointment.  Hope it goes well. I had two scans recently and I was so stressed the nights before that I was awake and weeing all night. I drank all the water in the morning but when I went for the scans I was dehydrated from the night so there was not enough water in my system. It was not a problem and they did the trans vaginal instead. The sonographer ( is that the right word) both times were really kind and lovely women who were happy to tell me what they saw, though not sure they are supposed to. They were so much better than all 6 of the gynaecologists I have had the misfortune to meet these last couple of years!  It's very worrying having these tests, so hope all goes well.

I don't know where that condom emoji came from in my earlier post, I'm sure I meant to choose this:

Hi all

Update on my scan.  IT went well, sonographer was great, she said bladder looked smooth and good, womb lining nice and thin! She struggled to find my ovaries, but said that she would be more concerned if she found them easily, as they shrink after menopause.  She found them eventually and said looked good.  She did both abdo and trans vaginal, so very thorough.

She said I still need to attend gynae appointment, as I will need cervix and vaginal walls looked at.

But, so far so good!

I don't have my gynae appointment yet, you have to go through the gatekeepers before they will give you an appointment.  I got my referral document with my password, but too late to ring, as they close at 5pm

thank you for the support, you are all fabulous!  :thankyou: :foryou: :tulips2:
