Hi Suzysunday   I read your message earlier today and the various replies. Sometimes I think the Vagifem is working well and other times I am really not sure. My symptoms returned during this last week and i had a slight virus as well. perhaps that is connected to the recurrence. I have got a slight soreness at the moment. Last week i put a question on the FB page on VA. It was aimed at those who had already been using Vagifem for more than a year. I just wanted to know whether their improvement had been gradual over an extended period because I hadn't expected a return of the soreness/muscular aching after 4 months when things had been going well.
I got some good replies including one from someone who has been using Vagifem for 3-4 years. She found an immediate improvement in the first few days  as I did but then found that the benefits fluctuated. Four months is early in the process in her view. I found that encouraging and so did another member who had had a similar experience to me.

Yes that's encouraging to hear that 4 months is early in the process.  Most  people seem to be using vagifem, I don't know if one is better than another.  I just wasn't prepared for this fluctuation with improvement.   Since the bleeding and biopsy in September I haven't had much good advice from gp's,  been finding out myself and this forum. It has knocked me back psychologically and lost so much confidence in my body.

Originally Vagifem was prescribed at 25 ?? then the amount was dropped to 10 ?? [can't remember what the product is measured in].  It is delivered into the vagina in a different way than Ovestin which is via an applicator which needs rinsing between use.

Vaginal Atrophy mimics urine infection-type symptoms really really well ......... dryness can make the area itchy, it can in the worst cases cause the vagina to require surgical intervention in order to part the internal lips.  So once we feel dryness or that it itches, we need to begin lubrication.  For years I used KY Jelly as soon as necessary, then the VA began with intermittent urine-type symptoms but my GP recognised it was not infection but dryness.

Because hormones are up and down; and probably due to the vaginal area not getting the TLC it probably requires, it is important to use what ever it takes to keep it moist without it dripping ;-).  That is, inner and outer lips, bottom if necessary.  Inbetween using the product some ladies find 'sylc' and/or 'yes' products of use.

The unit measurement is micrograms mcg.

Hi ladies,

I use the yes water based vaginal moisturiser and also vagisan on top of the vagifem...it does help but I think it's all trial and error and excepting that you have gone through a big change. I'm post meno and nearly 60 but was symptom free apart from the odd hotness here and there until I was 56...two years ago everything changed for me.

It's a challenge to say the least to be honest.

Take care ladies x

Hi all

I think my VA has come back after about 9 months on Vagifem.  My main symptom was bladder - frequency and  control (or lack of), and the Vagifem seemed to work well on that, until very recently, and it has come back with a vengeance :-(  .  Added to that I have had a pink discharge, and I have a pressure feeling at the front of my pubic area.

so, if it fluctuates, does that mean it could start working again?

How long have you had it  back? Just a few days or longer?   I don't know for sure but maybe it is temporary unless you have a UTI. I have never had a pink dis charge.

Hi katejo

A few weeks I think, it sort of crept up on me gradually .

I'm at the doctor's surgery now, waiting for the reception to open so I can make an appointment about the slight bleeding.

(I had a blood test at 7.30 so was already here, they'll be giving me my own chair soon!)

Kimmyi, I thought I was ok until just over 2 yrs ago and I'm 60 now.  Do you use any systemic hrt or just vagifem, Kimmyi and Jeepers.  Poor you jeepers, I really feel for you. It's all so stressful. Not good stuck in the docs waiting room on a Monday morning.  Hope things are ok for you.

Your surgery opens early for blood tests! Our building isn't open before 8am. My VA symptoms seem better today.

I was fairly free of symptoms during peri and early post meno. I didn't seriously consider HRT and didn't know about VA. Developments in the past year. I am almost 56 now.
