Change of HRT
« on: January 09, 2019, 01:24:02 PM »

Hi ladies, Can you advise please? I am changing from a tablet HRT to a patch (both Conti)   I want to leave a gap between stopping and starting the new HRT to see if I get  the return of any flushes etc. What, in  your opinion is a suitable length of time to wait?

Hi Birdy, I have been taking HRT for many years and I just want to see where my system is at. Whether the flushing is still there? hence my question.

Hi Purplebee,

Everyone is different and some may get symptoms more quickly when stopping than others. Some women still get Flushes even though they have reached menopause. My next door neighbour an mother both in there 80's still get hot flushes. So stopping will not necessarily tell you where you are, my friend's period stopped for a year when she had no symptoms and then started again followed by symptoms of menopause. If you are over 55 years ish the chances are you may have reached menopause. If you want to stop for a bit maybe reduce the dosage and see what reaction you have?

Hi purplebee

 :welcomemm:

As a matter of interest how old are you now? How long you stop to wait may partly depend on this (your age) if you feel you want to stop HRT.

Hello Hurdity, I'm 66. From what the other ladies have said.I think I might start putting the patch on sooner rather then later.  Apart from preventing any possible flushes, it helps with bones and skin. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Also, my GP said to start with a low dose of Evorel Conti

Hi Purplebee,
Can i ask why you have changed from tablet to patch?
I have done the same, I was on femoston conti but after a year felt that they were not doing the job so changed to evorol conti about 2 months ago. I'm not sure these are right for me either and I don't seem to get much help from the doctors.
I didn't have a gap in between. I have found the patches easier to use & don't have any problems with them sticking.
I do not want to be negative and will probably need to give it a bit longer but I just know what is right for me.

I hope you get on ok with them  :)

Hello Charlie 62, I wasn't good at taking them tbh.. and I just felt tired and foggy brained most of the time. What did you feel wasn't working for you on Femoston? (if you don't mind me asking) GP suggested Evorel. I hope you start to feel the benefits soon. Keepme posted please.

Hi Purplebee,
I changed for much the same reason as you but don't feel the patches are making any real difference. The problem I have is that I don't fully understand all the different types of hrt and what would be better for me. (I see someone replied to your post about a lozenge?) I am 56 and was on the continuous contraceptive pill until i was nearly 55 so haven't had a bleed for years and don't know when my meno started. My doctor isn't any good and wanted to palm me off with ADs so I see another doctor who didn't have a clue and prescribed femoston 2/10 which would have given me a bleed so am now on the patches.
let me know how you get on with the patches, good luck
