Menopause Matters magazine ISSUE 81 out now. (Autumn issue, September 2025)
Lack of salt in the over-all diet.
I used to get terrible foot/toe cramps, even on hrt so used to use tablet form magnesium which sorted itIt's weird because I've not taken the tablets for quite a while and the cramps haven't returned so far so shows it's probably one of those meno symptoms that comes and goes x
Hi AngelYes I think it`s an hrt side effect for me - I am on femseven sequi and have been getting almost nightly foot cramps (not terrible - goes away in seconds) and the odd calf one - which is damn painful. Don`t think it`s salt for me as I always put it on certain foods (chips!!! Spuds!!!) I don`t consciously have a low salt intake and it only started when I went onto hrt. it`s the only side effect I`m getting so far so will grin and bear it except when I`m gripping my calf and howling in agony at 3am lol.
Potassium rich foods are good for cramp. A daily banana might help. Potassium is also found in spinach, oranges and avocados. A magnesium supplement might be a good thing, too.JP x

Would magnesium glycinate work better than magnesium oil spray? xx
