Exercise issues
« on: November 27, 2018, 08:17:40 PM »

Just watching Mariella Frostrup's documentary. Very good that she's bringing the menopause to the fore.

However, I find my experience of exercise totally different than that described. I.e. it does not make me feel good. A walk which would have been easy a few years ago took me four days to recover from, recently. I had joint pains and swelling, foot cramps and exhaustion.

It's not like I don't do some exercise every day. I walk to work which is half an hour brisk walking a day. But a couple of years ago, I could do fifteen miles easily and now five miles leaves me debilitated.

I have put on weight, it's a vicious circle. Don't do much exercise, get fat. Do it, have a week when I cannot function properly in everyday life, afterwards! Heeelllp!

I'm so sorry! A few years ago, I dealt with something similar. I would clean the house and be down for 4-5 days after...completely exhausted and unable to do anything else. Getting my hormones balanced back then helped....
Then, peri hit several months ago and that started back up with the aches and pains to go with it. Finding what worked for me hormonally has really helped. I definitely don't hurt myself trying to exercise as much. I was getting pulled muscles from opening a jar!

Try to take it easy and just do the best you can. I'm sure someone will be along that can give you some good advice. Just want you to know you are not alone.

I know what you mean, I spent 2 years doing next to nothing due to fatigue (undiagnosed peri). Now I can't do anything like the same amount of exercise I used to.
What about swimming? Not as much stress on your joints and it's supposed to be good all-round exercise.

It's good you're walking briskly to work Hezzalady,so well done

Hi hezzalady -yes Im the same! Got into walking after my husband left me and 5 years ago I was pretty fit, same as you could walk 15 miles easily. I was also doing kettlebell classes. But nowadays even though I can still walk a fair distance I also am so stiff and achey for days afterwards. My knees hips and ankles  hurt. For a long time I blamed the kettlecise for my painful elbows, thought Id overdone it, but when they carried on hurting for months after I stopped the classes I wondered if it was all part of peri.

Its frustrating too that people I used to walk with dont seem to get it...they first knew me when I was fitter and slimmer and first up the hills and although Ive explained to some of the women I dont think they 'get it'. One if the worse bits is that walking was goid for mymental health too and that has declined along with the rest😕basically im a mess :'(

So yes I really get where youre coming from
