I just wondered if any of you had heard or even had this?
I turned down a second colonoscopy today as last time I had one (2 years ago) it was painful but did show up diverticulitis but as I've been losing weight & have had diarrhoea recently the drs only answer was a colonoscopy but unfortunately this sent my anxiety off & mentally I just couldn't go through it again especially as the specialist said he wasn't too concerned as my faecal & blood tests were borderline & he reckons it's just my diverticulitis flaring up.My daughter told me about this little camera you swallow & it takes snaps all the way through your body,in one end out the other.wouldnt that be so much simpler?

I have heard of it as well. It honestly sounds like a much better option! Maybe as time goes, it'll become a more common procedure. Seems like it would be more affordable...swallow this "pill" and done.

So much less intrusive than a colonoscopy & pain free too,I'm going to ask my dr on Monday although I'm waiting for a lecture from her about cancelling said colonoscopy

I think the problem is there has been occasions when the capsule hasn't come out ..........
I asked my surgeon about that and he told me never in a million years but then again I'm a disaster !

Groundhog,I think it is a tiny %age that don't come out & then they have to operate but I think that's a risk I'd take

I think you still have to go through the clearing out procedure beforehand though which I think is one of the worst parts

Hi ladies according to what I've read there is no preparation required it's just fasting before for 10 hours and no liquids for a couple of hours.like with everything there are small risks but it would also be my route of preference.difficult to find a definate costs but id say around £500 according to Google but you could always email around for Quotes.good luck 😘DD

I read also DD that it's just fasting etc,it would make life so much easier,I've taken that drink you have to take before a colonoscopy & i daren't leave the loo😱 if it's only £500 ish I'm sure I could stretch to that,it's just taking on the battle with my gp

I read that some doctors want you to take laxatives but I can see it would be better than the sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy although if a problem is seen I guess they still have to do the more invasive investigations in order to take biopsies much as with the virtual colonoscopy? The site I read says no food or drink for twelve hours before and two hours afterwards. Fourteen hours without fluids sounds excessive?

Thing with my situation taz is they want to check for inflammatory bowel disease & this capsule would be just the job,I just can't go through a colonoscopy again and also a biopsy,my stress levels were through the roof and my anxiety was crippling me,it may not be the answer for everyone as sometimes a biopsy is needed regardless but I'm going to ask and see what go says

It sounds like just the thing for you Jaypo. Fingers crossed you can get it. I see there's info on the Colitis and Crohn's website about it. Have you had the blood and stool tests done already?

Hi taz,yes,had them all done,all came back abnormal but when I went to see gastro specialist,he told me they were borderline & said it was probably just the diverticulitis causing the infection but wanted to do the colonoscopy anyway,just because my daughter has an ibd,least I know I don't have cancer,obviously that was on my mind!surprise surprise 😄
