Hair shedding
« on: November 21, 2018, 06:50:05 PM »

Hi all. Quick question regarding hair shedding. I've recently changed HRT again and although only in the first month, I can honestly say I haven't felt this well since this time last year ! I'm currently on Estradot 62.5 and Utrogestan on sequi basis. I'm also taking 10mg of Amitriptyline (a very low dose AD) to try to ease stomach pain, which also seems to be working very well.  I'm on day 9 of prog. and over the last week my hair has started to shed at an alarming rate 🙁 and it's really frightening me !

I just wondered if you knew whether this could be due to a change in my regime and will therefore settle or could it be because I'm in the progesterone phase of my cycle.  I've recently had blood tests and thyroid, iron etc. are all ok.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for replying Stellajane.  I am using it vaginally, one capsule per night.  You are so right about it not being simple.  I feel really good on this regime but I don't want to be bald 😢

Thanks again.

Thanks Stellajane, will do. I notice it more when I wash it......it's everywhere. I'm going to have it cut shorter next week. I know it won't stop it from shedding but hopefully, it won't look so bad in the plug hole 😏

Thanks again.

Hello Rosie,
My hair has been thinning since I came off my hrt some 8 weeks ago.  You have all my sympathy, it doesn't make you feel good does it??  My temples have gone really thin, even my hairdresser remarked on it!  Am also thinking of having a shorter cut.  Hope yours stops when you're back on oestrogen.   All teh best, Mandy x

Hi Mandy.  No, you're right, it doesn't make you feel good.  In fact I've found it the most distressing of all symptoms/side effects.  I've upped my hrt dosage to see if that helps and I finish my 12 days of progesterone tomorrow so with these two things combined, I hope to see a slowing down of the shedding.  I can't afford to lose any more 😱

Wishing you well.

I had crazy shedding after stopping the contraceptive pill months ago. It slowed down but I can't seem to get it to stop. I wish I knew what my body needed to stop it. I am sick of the trail of hair I leave. I did cut mine short to hopefully help it not be so noticeable.

If it is any consolation...my teenage son (with longer hair) leaves as much hair as I do in the shower (Oh I wish he would clean it out when he is done!  ::))

Thanks for responding BlueButterfly. Looking back, I've always shed a lot of hair and I remember when I was pregnant my hair used to grow like mad and after I'd had the baby it always fell out.  I think the thing is, I'm probably shedding as much but the hair that grows back is of the thinner variety 😱 😏
