Feeling so ill
« on: October 31, 2018, 02:55:11 PM »

Hi ladies came off Femseven Conti 3 weeks ago tomorrow. Since then gave gradually felt worse. Ended up in A&E on Monday as felt so bad. Bad sweats at 5,am every morning, racing heart all day, nausea mornings on waking and cough and throw up phlegm.  Lightheaded, feeling weak, still losing weight. Anyway hospital doc said I have typical symptoms of gastritis. Has given me omeprazole. Took 1 tablet on Monday, felt better, actually slept well and no sweating or nausea. Took another yesterday, ate loads. Last night felt dizzy and dry mouth. Woke this morning at 4am sweating buckets, nausea, fast heart, lightheaded and generally feel so yucky it's untrue. Have taken day 3 tablet today.  In work now and feel spaced out, fast heart, dizzy. I am sick to death of not feeling well. Could these symptoms be hormones and worse since stopping HRT (was on patches 16 weeks) or is it gastritis??

I had all those symptoms and they were menopausal symptoms. Hrt stopped all the horrible symptoms x

Hi yes I'm post meno. A year ago I started feeling very ill....3 years post meno. I felt sick, couldn't eat, felt dizzy, weak, exhausted , heart palpitations, insomnia, couldn't stop crying, night sweats, hot flushes....I can't describe how ill I was! I just about managed to get out of bed every day. Was on oral hrt for 4 months and I got worse . Saw 6 GPs and 2 private consultants. Finally got on Oestrogel and Utrogestan and slowly got my life back x

I stopped my hrt for a while and got all my symptoms back. Although it's not balanced very well at the moment I know I cant function at all without it.  Mind you Angle 1964 - there are plenty of "bugs" about at the minute so these could well be adding on top to some level of hrt "withdrawal".  Always hard to say.

Thanks Dotty and Ladybt28 they done bloods at hospital all ok so don't think viral. All ok apart from the gastritis diagnosis. I am breathless today too so thinking more hormones or anxiety. Feel totally washed out. Ive got doctor's tomorrow at 9am and have typed up a list. Think she's sick to death of me. She keeps wanting me to go on Citalopram but I have read the side effects so unsure. :(

Definitely sounds like menopause to me. My GP wanted to put me on anti depressants but I couldn't see how they were going to help me. I never took them and I'm fine now that my oestrogen levels are right x

If you read here Angle1964 - there are loads of ladies who display symptoms of depression and anxiety and their doctors want them on Anti-depressants but the real problem is they are having hormonal fluctuations causing the anxiety.  Look at the list Dotty posted just now these are easily mistaken for other things and not the menopause.  I am not a good person to comment on Anti-D's because I was on them a very, very, long time and they made no difference - it was hormonal for me through my whole life starting when I got my periods but no one put 2+ together.

If you think it is hormonal trust your gut (maybe not a good analagy given the gastritis!) but you know what I mean.  Start there rather than give into the Dr's usual dishing out of pills.  As for some patches which being transdermal avoid being processed by the stomach and then you will have to wait at least 3 months to see if everything/anything settles.  It's tough to hold out but worth it in the end.....usually....although not always but you have to try.

Just to add....I had every blood test under the sun; an endoscopy and a 24hr urine test. I was seeing my GP every week in desperation . Oestrogel was the only thing that worked for me but it did take 6-8 weeks to see any improvement and a further 4-6 weeks to see more improvement . I proved that I didn't need anti depressants x

Hi Angel1964
I too went through all of the above, thought I was going mad, or I was seriously ill.
I had everything except the vomiting.
Could just be standing up anywhere and horrible feelings would come over me, feelings I can't even explain, then another one, then something else, it was just terrible.
Then I started to dabble in hrt, things started to improve, not brilliant, but then I knew it was hrt I needed,   I'm 4 years post meno now, and have found something that works for me.. it was a long road, but here I am, better, and coping with the little things that hrt doesn't solve altogether......but boy, I wouldn't give it up for all the tea in China....lol

Good luck, hope you start to feel better soon. Keep posting, let us know.....xx

Just to add, my GP wanted me to go on antidepressants, I refused....xx

Make a list of your symptoms and perhaps keep a mood/food/symptom diary.  Have a chat with your Practice Nurse?

I have just looked at my September calendar and always had slight anxiety 2 days a week when on HRT patches Femseven Conti. On looking at calendar for October, I stopped Hrt on 11th and anxiety has been virtually every day!! Should I put patches back on?? Feeling so desperate now :(  :spin:

Angel1964 - can you provide a bit more info - how long had you been on the Femoston Conti before you stopped? and where are you in the meno journey?

I have had the same experience as several others above in that the Dr tried to put me on ADs when I knew my depression was hormonal, I read this forum and stuck to my guns and asked for HRT and within 3 days of starting patches felt much better. I guess it`s a case of finding which ones work for you - luckily for me it was the 1st ones I tried without any side effects.
