Well yes AgathaC, it really does make that much difference - if I swim in the river in the morning it both kills the anxiety and lifts my mood to the point where I can be quite exuberant. My daughters and I went to a National Trust house in the afternoon and spent the whole time killing ourselves laughing at the various portraits, naked cherub friezes and other strange artefacts on display. That's not a normal day for me right now.....

I'm going to look up the research and post it on here because it is backed up by science....not that that makes it any easier to force yourself to do it :(

I read somewhere that putting cold ice behind the neck i.e. around the vagus nerve could really reduce anxiety.  This maybe something similar and maybe less uncomfortable LOL.  J x

Yes you could be right - I'm sure in the original research it said it was the base of the brain that was the area that needed stimulating, so I always make sure I float on my back for a decent amount of time to get the cold water to the right place. But maybe just a bag of frozen peas on the neck first thing in the morning would do the same job - gotta be worth a try!

Frozen peas are so versatile - I vividly recall the era when they were therapeutic applied to other parts, postpartum.....
