Clotting just after period
« on: October 01, 2018, 01:05:13 PM »

Hi, not been active for a while on here, just been plodding along (as usual)!
I kind of stopped HRT for a while to see how my periods were and they seem to be regular.
As symptoms persisted I decided approx 2 months ago to just try 1 pump of estrogel and a smidge of  testim.
I've not long had a period (finished on Friday) and last night out of the blue started bleeding heavily and then passed a rather large clot. Then nothing, no bleeding or anything. The same has happened again this morning, the clot was only a small one though and again all bleeding has stopped?
My initial thoughts are it's maybe a build up because of the gels but I'm unsure whether to just check with my GP? I've got no pain except lower back ache.
Thanks

Hi Chi Chi. I would get this checked out with your doctor just to make sure all is well. What progesterone are you using?

Thanks Taz, none  :-\ it really doesn't agree with me, I was hoping that with just one pump of gel I could get away without having to use it

Hi Chi Chi
As you still have a uterus, you will need some form of progesterone to stop the lining of your uterus building up too much. The symptoms you're having seem to be just that. It's not ok to bleed like this - go and see your doctor, they might prescribe you Utrogestan to take vaginally for the last two weeks of your period. Or you might have a Mirena put in to protect your uterus, then you can take as much oestrogen as you need. Good luck with it all xx

I agree with NorthArm. If you are using any oestrogen you will need a progesterone to counteract the effects on the uterus and prevent endometrial cancer. Please see your doc and let us know what is decided and how you're doing

Thanks for the replies,
Northarm I've already tried mirena's, twice and each time had to have them removed. I've also tried utrogesten orally and vaginally and just can't tolerate either unfortunately.
This is partly the reason I gave up on HRT as I just can't take progesterone. I hoped that just a small amount of gel wouldn't require the use of it and as I've been having a period/bleed each month that I wasn't getting a build up.
I haven't had any more clotting since.
