Does " meno brain " get worse if you worry about it ?
« on: September 25, 2018, 05:21:35 PM »

Hey Ladies ,
Since I've realised that I've got meno brain ( well I sincerely hope that's what it is - all the bloods I had done a couple of weeks back have come back normal ), it seems to have got worse? Or am I just hyper aware of it now ?
I can't seem to multitask any more I always mess up somehow , I had a thing with words which seems to have gone for the moment , I can't remember sometimes doing things that I've done ( I.e. Opening or closing a awindow or door ) and the lack of concentration and daydreaming is unreal . Sometimes fell like I'm in a daze ! But so far haven't forgotten anything important ...... go into a room and forget what I'd decided to go in there for two minutes earlier ...got I bit upset this morning cos I put the wrong cushions on the wrong sofa ( pathetic I know)

Hoping for some reassurance . So I can stop worrying about it and accept it .  :-\

Hi Lemondrop.

Yeah, I think the more we focus on something, the worse it gets.
There's another thread on here somewhere called ‘doing stupid things ‘.
Have a read, we're all the same, sometimes it can be quite funny.
Don't stress, it will get better I'm sure.
I've lost count how many times I've gone into a room and forgot what for.
Sometimes I wonder around the supermarket and forget what I've gone in there for, and you can bet
your bottom dollar, I've come home without it..lol
I think we've all worried about it at first, but then I really think the more we worry, the worse it gets..

Acceptance is helpful.  I have had to make lists for years  ::) but now if I leave my shopping list behind, I can no longer remember what I have written on it.

I go upstairs and can't remember ........... I have no recall so can't back-track if I lose anything, i.e. 'phone, keys, reading glasses ........ we have a thread: 'doing stupid things' : which might reassure you ;-)

..... and look out for the 'strange woman in your house'  :whist:

I've always had a bit of a spacey brain but I knew it was getting bad when I found the phone in the refrigerator one day. I don't know how long it was in there. It was cold. I would have had quite the time if someone had tried to call me. I stressed for awhile and then just gave up. The harder I try not to do it, the worse I am. I have just accept it for now. My family will just have to answer the same question 2 or 3 times and deal with it since I can't remember asking the first time.

Thanks for the replies ,
Stella Jane , I have been to gp and been put on hrt , and had bloods , it's not happening constantly, just  few times a day and it is definitely worse I think if I stress over it or am very tired . I did some dementia memory tests online and results were fine . Anyway with me it's more absent mindedness and foggy thoughts sometimes ? I don't forget names etc ( fingers crossed ) .
This is started for me after a period of very poor sleep , maybe a connection there . So maybe not so weird after all .

Yes, sleep deprivation is the worst.
When I have that, I can't remember what day it is, never mind anything else..lol
Bluebutterfly, my kids get fed up with me asking the same question over,
I don't know if it's my brain or because I'm not totally listening to them, so therefore,
have to ask again.
I know it does my head in....just as much as them....

lemondrop This was totally me last year. Please don't worry. I ended up at the GP twice in a period of 6 months thinking I had dementia.
I felt distracted/anxious/tearful. I do something daft because I am distracted (e.g. got into the passenger seat when I was ment to be driving or put the cereal box in the wrong cupboard. I called the local cinema the theatre once to a friend.   Then I go into a hyper worried state. I too did all the on-line tests in a state of panic at all hours of the day and night! (The one with the three hills and the Sage one!). Could I recognise a harp/rhino/draw a clock face/, recite the months backwards etc  Of course I could.  Then a week or so later the brain fog cleared and I was fine again. Felt stupid. Than bam about 5 months later I get into the same hormonal infused loop. Lack of sleep and worry play a huge part on this too.  Talking to the GP totally reassured me. I now notice that my kids and friends are constantly making daft errors. I think at this age and because the hormone changes make us feel rubbish we are hyper aware of it. Plus brain fog is a recognised part of Peri/Meno.

I feel better now I've read this thread.  In the last 2 weeks I've had 3 things go bonkers.   My kitchen was changed SEVEN years ago.  I went to the old cupboard for the bin and later I went to the island for cutlery (no drawers in it now).
Then a few days later I went to flush the toilet pulling the blind cord and that toilet doesn't even have a chain flush!!!!  Losing it!!  🤣😂🤣😂😅😅😂

Hi all,

Well this is a comforting read . Re. the kitchen thing , ours was changed 12 years ago and both myself and hubby sometimes go to the wrong cupboard for cups ...we are having a new one soon so I think we will have to have signs on all the doors ! Yesterday was ok for me but i ve had right old morning of it today , looking for deodorant whilst putting it on  :o, folded  a sofa throw and then my son asked for it and i looked all round for it even though id put it down two mins earlier ( to be fair i was on tablet AND trying to see thru my reading glasses  cos had forgotten was wearing them - don't get me started on the whole reading glasses/sunglasses thing ....)and was flushing at same time ...called windscreen wipers screen scrapers ! 7 out 10 on the scatty scale , including the weird words in head  ::)
Roseneath are you me ? yy to all the test things . Actually I cancelled the memory test at docs cos I googled it and knew I would pass it .
Oh and something else . I nearly tried to stick a pantie liner to my thigh instead of my pants when I first went on HRT patch because I was nervous and obssessed about it ..... :o

lemondrop . I think the best medicine we could have would be a group hug and a good laugh and cry. I am freaking out today  because I have been doing these huge painful burps after eating a M & S salmon/soy salad. I just looked in the diary and it was 5 years ago this month I freaked out at the GP because I thought I was burping too much! I even did 2 trips to A & E with my burping. We should just get a leaflet saying Welcome to your new life of anxiety, paranoia and accompanied by a myriad of horrid symptoms cause by fluctuating hormones'. Talk about life begins at 40.....
