How many HRT’s have you tried ?
« on: September 02, 2018, 12:48:57 PM »

Hi ladies.  Just looking back to see how many different preparations I have tried over the last year in my quest to fine ‘the one'.  To date I've tried 6 and just going into number 7😳.  Obviously some I've only managed to stay on for a very short time due to the horrible side affects and others I've managed to stay on for longer.

I hope you don't mind me asking but I was just curious to get an idea if anyone else has tried this many or is it unusual to try so many and still not to have been able to find one that works !

Thanks ladies.

Hello Rosie63

I've just looked through my diaries and in the 6 years I've been using HRT I've tried Climmese tablets, Evorel Conti patches in a variety of strengths because I cut some of them, Tibolone and Oestrogel and Utrogestan, orally and vaginally. My diaries make for depressing reading because my main symptoms of flushing, anxiety and low mood have persisted.  One thing I did realise though was that the good days when I felt calm and normal were  accompanied by reduced flushing, so the two are definitely connected. Trouble is I can't identify why my flushes suddenly subsided and my mood lightened because nothing else changes!

I am currently using 3 pumps of Oestrogel and Utrogestan vaginally with limited success but I'll stick it out for a few months. Btw I  gave every preparation plenty of time  to work  it's magic but they were all disappointing. I'm tempted to ask for my money back!

Wishing you well.

Hi ladies.  Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.  I see from this that I have probably tried more than most which I find a bit depressing 😞 The thing I find most concerning is that most of the hrt's I've tried have managed my meno symptoms to an extent that I could live with but it's the discomfort in my stomach that I find so distressing and it's that that keeps making me stop.  It can be so painful and tiring. It's the same on oestrogen only so I'm fairly confident it's not the progesterone although that comes with different side effects.

Kathleen - crikey, I take my hat off to you for sticking with it for 6 years but I guess we don't have much choice do we because the alternative of not taking hrt is not very palatable either.  Is there any chance you could still be producing your own hormones which might explain the changes you experience for no apparent reason ? I don't get flushes or anxiety but extremely achey joints and flu-like symptoms, headache, fatigue and, as I say, horrible digestive issues.

Wishing you well too.

Hello again Rosie63.

Funny you should say that because my consultant also suggested that my good spells are due to my ovaries suddenly producing some oestrogen ( goodness knows where from though because when I had a hysteroscopy they looked pretty knackered on the screen).  Even so you'd think one of my many preparations would do a job of delivering the necessary amount of oestrogen to suppress the flushes! I usually  gave  each HRT 3 to 6 months minimum, some even longer but to no avail. Perhaps the fact that each one included progesterone was a factor and probably still is.

You are fortunate to escape the flushes and anxiety and although I had a 6 month spell of headaches I haven't had any joint pain, flu-like symptoms, fatigue or digestive issues ( touching wood here obviously lol ).

Menopause is certainly a tough row to hoe!

Take care.

Hi everyone
I am number two. And to be fair it's sooo hard to change over. The first Femoston 2/10 was good for hot flushes but was causing me immense ANXIETY
NOW I have switched to estradot 50patches and days 1-12 of progesterone (utostergan) totally wrong spelling sorry 200mg per day.
I had horrific side effects on the change over but hope that month two will be better.
It's tough but we will all get through it.
I keep saying one less day to deal with.
Positive thinking does help xxx

Elleste solo tablet - 13 years
Elleste solo patch - 1 day ! (Migraine)
estradot - < 1 year I think
tibolone - < 1 year
oestrogel - 16 months and ongoing

That's it I think for oestrogen

I've tried 6, some were wonderful some not so:

Prempak C - worked but not good for you cos made from conjugated equine urine.

Evorel 50 patches- easily the best one (for me), but couldn't tolerate noresthisterone.

Estradot patches - awful allergic reaction

Tibilone - couldn't tolerate weight gain and low mood

Oestrogel - felt very ill after 4 days so concluded I wasn't absorbing properly

Back to my favourite Evorel with Mirena - had to have Mirena removed after 6 months as negative symptoms (low mood, quashed libido, weight gain) did not improve

Now on Evorel 50 with utrogestan (progesterone).  currently about to trial Provera for progesterone as that's the part I struggle with
