Vaginally.  No problems with that so far.

I have never heard of ureogetsan being used topically - I mean it is not designed for this, and there is no research. No-one should be using it like this for endometrial protection as it is not well absorbed through the skin. Vaginally is the best way - it goes straight to the uterus whereas if you have to take it through the skin it needs to be transported through the blood-stream to the uterus so less will get there probably (for equivalent dosage).  I have only ever used it vaginally.

When I was taking Utrogestan I took it vaginally. I just wanted to say that I saw my GP last week to ask if I could try Estrodot patches with Utrogestan, he agreed to this but when I mentioned about using it vaginally, he seemed surprised and said he'd never heard of it ::) The private gynae I was seeing also didn't seem clued up on it.  They are both very nice and amenable to me trying different hrt but I was surprised at their reaction.  I would have liked their support in using the Utrogestan this way but it won't stop me from taking it that way.

Wishing you all well.

Hi there tinkerbelj
I take utrogestan vaginally 100mg daily. I use an applicator and pop it up at bedtime. No side effects to speak of , except occassional slight vag irritation but think that may be due to va  :'(
Had a uterine scan yesterday lining 2.9 mm thats 1 mm less than last year although ive only been using utro vaginally since june this year , the previous 12 months took it orally but side effects eventually overtook the benefits of my oestrogen patch hence the switch to vag use.

I'm currently experimenting with using it topically on insides of my wrists - I have very thin skin and blood so it may absorb better for me than some people so I'm not recommending it I know you're not suppsed to do it like this. However I have very bad reactions either vaginally or orally so seemed worth a shot rather than giving up altogether. So far it's worked as I got a withdrawal bleed.

Rosie, my private HRT specialist in London was perfectly happy and onboard with Utrogestan vaginally.  And also with every other night.  I am thinking I might try every night at some point, but for a few months I will keep it as it is.

Perhaps try every other night and see if that helps the side effects?  My specialist was happy with this.  I'm on 2 pumps of gel.

I can't take it up the dooley as it gives me the most horrendous cramps so I take it orally. I get bloody side effects whichever way tbh but orally for me is better.

I had a failed Mirena coil insertion today. My first attempt and first step in continuous HRT with plan for oestrogel. Apparently my cervix is small so they could not get it in.i never had children and have VA do maybe these are why. i see the GP on Friday to discuss options. One is to have the cervix stretched and a gynea insert it but I think taking utrogestin vaginally sounds less invasive. I would be interested in what others would do in my place. I am 46 , peri with monthly migraines so I need continuous HRT.

Well you could try either, but if it's another Mirena, insist on sedation.  I had mine years ago with sedation (no kids either) and it was fine.  I felt miserable, fat and slow for about 4 months, with spotting, and then it settled and I felt great for years.

I am now using Utrogestan vaginally every other night because I wanted to try the body identical progesterone.  If I don't get on well with this, I will ask for another Mirena.

I'm learning from all this, and the thing I'm learning is whatever you use it takes a long time to settle down.  Several months if not more.  Last week, feeling awful on Thursday and Friday, Puddlesmum mentioned something that made me think I was not tolerating the Utrogestan and that worried me.  But then I had the best day on Saturday that I've had this year!  So I think it's more to do with my oestrogen levels and probably lack of testosterone rather than the Utrogestan.  In some strange way my body seems to look forward to using it.  Wish I could get hold of an applicator though.  Would make life easier.

Is that similar to Uterogestin? That is an oral form which I have.  Can it be taken vaginally then or is that in a different form?

Not quite sure what you mean here.  You are asking if something is similar to Utrogestan, but I'm not sure what.

However, normal Utrogestan 100 (small round caps) can be inserted up as high as you can into the vagina when you get in bed at night and left to dissolve.  I do it this way.  It's suiting me very well.  I currently only use it every other night, but I think I'm going to move to every night shortly as I quite like it.  I feel better on the days I've had it the night before.  They do it this way on the continent, but it's not licensed for vaginal use in the UK.  However hormone specialists are more than happy to prescribe it this way.  You get more of the hormone to the uterus and don't loose it through the digestive process.

I'm talking about utrogestan. They are oral tablets as far as I know. I have seen a different sort that are especially for the vagina. Do oral tablets dissolve easily in the vagina? Some say you can insert them this way but would haver thought they need to be in a different format
