Light Period
« on: August 24, 2018, 09:58:51 AM »

Hi Ladies

I hope you can help.

I have missed 2 periods and this month my period has been strange. Started with a few days of brown staining, then stopped for a couple of days and now I've had light beleeding for last couple of days.

Is this normal ?

Hi and welcome to mm

This sounds typical for peri menopause. Periods can be lighter, heavier, closer together or further apart. Periods will often stop for months and then start up again.
Nobody can tell you how long this will go on or whether flushes etc will subside.

How old are you?

Thank you for your replies.

I'm suffering from health anxiety and can't help but worry. I seem to lightly bleed for a bit every morning then it tails off then starts again the next day with cramps etc. This has been happening for 3 days.

Yes it is perfectly normal as your hormones become unpredictable with surges and sudden stops. I always think of it as a sort of switch. Your body turns on or off the switch affecting a certain hormone so the womb begins to shed it's lining then the body changes its mind, turns off the switch and the lining stops shedding then it might change its mind again..

The one type of bleeding which isn't normal at any age is bleeding after sex so if this happens you do need to get it checked out.

Sounds normal to me. In my case, periods became much lighter around 3-4 years before they stopped. They reduced in length from 6 full days with 3 quite heavy days to  3 days (with 1 quite heavy). At the very end I had periods about 7 months apart. Once or twice I just had brown staining and nothing else. On just 1 occasion i had a period which went on for much longer than usual. I was about to make a GP appointment but then it suddenly stopped.
