Age of Periods starting and menopause
« on: July 22, 2018, 06:05:28 PM »

During a recent conversation with a friend about the menopause and how we are changing but we then got on to when we got our period and hit puberty and wondered if there is a link to when we hit menopause and got our first period. Im 47 and still get my monthly visitor but its a bit all over the place and I got my period at about 12.

Did anyone start earlier and hit menopause earlier?

Hello Hinari hot flush,

I had my first period at 10.5 and hit menopause at 50.5 so exactly 40 years of fertility.

I started my periods about 12-13 and had my menopause at 42, so early. My mum started at 14-15 and had her meno at 47. My gyn believes that genetics play a huge role.

Periods started at 13.5.

Last period I was 49, so menopausal at 50.

I started a week before my 13th birthday - 30 years on, I'm still not finished although I'm in the fluctuating stage!  It's been going on since I was 35 so I'm hoping I don't have much longer to go before I finally finish!

Similar to me then sparkle. I used to think that my periods were never going to end and would get cheesed off. I now know there are some health benefits to a late meno but am still really glad to be shot of periods. Very over rated.  ;D

I was just 11 and was still having fairly regular periods when I started HRT at 53.

My periods started a couple of weeks after my 13th birthday and my oestrogen levels tanked exactly 30 years later, to the actual month.

Wow, that means I've had over 14 more years of periods than you MaryG. Now I am pissed.  :(

Started my periods when I was 16, am 52 now and recently got my hormones checked which showed I'm more than likely menopausal (have the coil so generally didn't get periods). When I came off the pill at 25, my periods didn't return and first two kids were born using Assisted Reproduction. Periods returned after birth of 2nd child (I was aged 31) and third child was unplanned but a very pleasant surprise!

My mum started her periods when she was 13 and was menopausal at 45.

I started my periods just after my 11th birthday, and am now just turned 54 and still have them. They drive me insane, especially as the pms lasts all month just about. I never talked to my mum about it but thinking back I think she might have hit menopause at around 54/55 as she became a different person for a couple of years I seem to remember.
