Hot Flushes & feeling hot all the time
« on: July 18, 2018, 10:25:34 AM »

I've recently started taking sage drops for my hot flushes, well I feel hot all the time & so far they are not abating.

I can literally walk from one room to the next & I get a hot flush. It's madness.
The amount I have sweated during this UK heatwave you would think that I would have lost shed loads of weight. Nope.

This really sucks.

Yep.  It's not called "The Change" for nowt.  However: some ladies find that alternatives such as sage do help but as hormonal upheaval takes over any benefits may be lost.

Do you think that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary would be of use to you?

Hi there  Kikki21 - the only thing that really works for hot flushes and sweats is HRT, although for women unable to take HRT for medical reasons there are some prescribable alternatives ie some anti-depressants or blood pressure medication - but the first line of treatment is HRT. If your cycle has become irregular and there is a diffference of at least a week between cycle length then you are definitely peri-menopausal and HRT may well help if you are suffering. If this is something you'd like to consider then have a look at the Treatments tab on the menu and come bacl to us with questions. Many of us on here take HRT and have never looked back :). The hot weather is a trial for menopausal women, and perhpas you will cope betterin the meantime when it cools down a bit!

This weather really hasn't been a pleasant experience for us ladies of a certain age. Ive been taking cold baths and using magic cool sprays to help keep me cool

I have had so many cold showers & literally have fans on all the time.
Now the weather has cooled down somewhat I have noticed a difference so maybe the sage drops have had an effect?

I'm not sure whether I want to take or can take HRT especially since I used to suffer from hormonal monthly migraines & I no longer have cycles. It is 2 years since I had a bleed!

Another option is a 5 or 10% progesterone cream, it's very effective for hot flushes and migraines. The vitamin E based ones have better absorption than the micronised creams.

Hi you can take hrt.... I started hrt 3 years after my last period . Hormonal migraines won't stop you taking hrt either. Transdermal in the form of patch or gel would be best . X
