Hello ladies, just a question: can a very low level of estrogen cause intrusive thoughts?

Yes I am still on venlafaxine. Uped the dose a week ago. Take 150 mg now . No I am not on HRT but will try it now. It can't get worse only better.

With regard to intrusive thoughts, I experienced this on Venlafaxine and is one of the reasons I gave it up.

Hello ladies,
Thanks Oolong65. I've been prescribed Venlafaxine and had not tried it yet, too scared after reading the leaflet. Any other side effects?

hello conolly, I had the intrusive thoughts before I took venlafaxine and I have read that these thoughts are typical in menopause.

Hi LL, it may be the increase in dose that is causing it,if so it should settle. I had intrusive thoughts when menopause hit me like a train last year,I don't have them now.
Conolly, I'm on 225mg venlafaxine and don't have a problem xx

Hi Connolly
I was on 75mg Venlafaxine and after the first week when it hit me like a train in terms of fatigue, I started to become manic. I was imagining things, couldn't sleep and had thoughts being repeated over and over in my head. I felt I came close to dropping into a very black pit. Now, I have to appreciate that I do seem very sensitive to any drugs and lots of people out there have been given their lives back by taking anti depressants. So, you can only try.
I'm now back on HRT after a gap of 10 years and a cancer operation - that's how desperate I am. Waiting patiently for the flushes to stop.

Hello ladies, menopause is a very strange thing and a very horrible time. So many awful symptoms.
oolong: sorry to hear that you still struggling and that venlafaxine caused these symptoms. I took it for 18 months without any problems before I stopped it ( silly me ) last November. At the moment it doesn't work as perfect as it did last time. My Gp it could because my hormones dropped again

Thank you ladies,
Your personal experiences are priceless, good or bad, I do appreciate you're sharing them.
Oolong65, I'm also very sensitive to drugs, hence my fear of taking them, that seems irrational but it's based on many previous episodes. I hope it works for you this time, honey. Fingers crossed.

That's such a shame, Oolong. Did you start straight on 75mg? Ven.is pretty powerful and should be started at 37.5mg and tapered up accordingly. Also, the XR version behaves a bit differently than the immediate release which can give you a 'slam dunk' effect, especially when first starting.
I've just started 37.5mg XR after trying the immediate release and can already tell the two are different. Time will tell if this does what I need it to do - mainly chronic classic migraine with aura preventative but it would be great if it cleared some flushes too.
Hope the HRT helps though Oolong - and for you too, Ladylollipop!
