Now gp has taken oestrogen off me’
« on: June 14, 2018, 11:07:26 AM »

So, I move surgery's because I moved home.  First they wipe off my entire repeat prescription list of everything.... epipens, inhalers, amitryline for nerve pain, testosterone, vagifem, oestrogel

I fought my case hard for one hour in that office but he said he's not budging until I see a gynae he chooses.  They put amitriptyline back on repeats.  I emailed complaining that I need vagifem daily and suffer anaphylaxis, I need access to epipens and inhalers due to my asthma.  I noticed vagifem was back on my list along with the amitriptyline

I have had a text from the surgery asking me to contact them.  Their response to my email is:

They will add inhalers and epipens back on because they have sufficient evidence I am a known anaphylaxis patient BUT will not issue any further oestrogen to me until they have consent from a gynaecologist !

The receptionist kept apologising to me on the phone and asking if I was ok, I told her I'm disgusted but am governed  by the dr! This dr is a young guy who has caused all this.  I rue the day I ever notified my old surgery that I'd moved

Fuming doesn't even cut it x

Annie - that's awful treatment.  Absolutely ridiculous.  Can you complain to someone?

Id complain in writing to practice manager and also to gmc and involve my MP I just wouldn't let these bar stewards defeat me id make them have to answer to higher authorities just because he didn't have the expertise he has no right to piss around with your health like that.use every legal dirty trick that you can Annie don't lie down to him.

If you Google Annie you will find an example of a letter of complaint to the gmc where it'll show you how to draft it properly.everyone should do this from here on when you are getting crap like this from GPS.complain complain complain don't accept it I'm certainly not going to now.Fight them on their own bloody level now Annie. The more complaints the GMC gets the more likely they are to act or take notice.x

Ill look into it Daisydot, cheers

I have enough oestrogel to keep me going (I've been stocking up in case a day like this happened)

I see his chosen gynae on 26th but this still needs bringing out in the open.  Maybe no one is on hrt in this damn town ?! X

Oh I just remembered a convo me and SIL had on Sunday, she had hysterectomy (kept ovaries) 2 years ago, she's nearly 51.  She went to the other surgery in the town saying she asches constantly like she has flu and is really tired and can't sleep due to night sweats (I told her she's in peri), the dr there said she doesn't need hrt as in this stage symptoms will come n go, I told her those symptoms won't, but brother googled and said what dr said so she's accepted to just suffer ! Hi Annie

So sorry to hear how you've been treated. As if you haven't got enough to deal with >:( You can buy Oestrogel and Vagifem on reputable site, I bought a few packs last year.

Hope you get sorted soon Wx

Good grief that is bang out of order! Not only is it unfair to you but it's an extra expense to the NHS sending you to a Gynaecologist when you've obviously been fine as you are. With things like the Perimenopause/Menopause, we NEED experienced doctors, not some young, fresh out of university, doctor. Yes I know even the more experienced don't always get it right but this guy takes it to a whole new level. I can't believe he removed everything from your prescription. That could have been dangerous. I hope you get it sorted.

Hello Annie0710.

So sorry to hear that you are having these problems. Surely your GP's decision isn't a clinical one so perhaps it comes down to  finances, for example if your oestrogen is prescribed by the consultant the cost can then come out of the hospital‘s budget?

Whatever the reason it seems ridiculous.

The crazy thing is  that on the one hand we have Louise Newson messaging from a Menopause conference in Canada and saying how much work is being done to educate doctors about the need for HRT whilst in the real world we have idiots like your GP.

Sorry I can't be more helpful and I hope you get all the medication you need asap.

Take care.

I would ring your previous Surgery ASAP, explain how you have been treated and ask them to intervene!   If you were a completely new patient from abroad then I could understand the GP's reluctance but as you have moved within the UK as an NHS patient then I would be complaining.  Maybe speak to a local Pharmacist for advice?  He/she may be able to push for what you require or advise you which Surgeries support HRT.

Or you could send Dr Currie a personal message for which there will be a charge but you may get some advice.

Oh ffs!! For a start, it is safe to take HRT until age of natural menopause and 5 years beyond (according to guidelines), and only then should things be reviewed to see if you should continue. So you've got  5 years to go! If you're healthy and have regular checks, then there is no reason you shouldn't continue beyond this. AND you're on estrogen only, and the majority of the risks pertain to combined HRT - estrogen only is relatively low risk.

Where in the name of God is this guy coming from?!? I feel so badly for you, Annie - this surgery (and particular GP) sound like a complete nightmare!! 😣😣😣😣 xxxx

CLKD, they can't do this. The patient is outwith of their jurisdiction once they have changed practice. The old GP cannot tell a new GP what they should or should not prescribe.  xxxx

Thank you ladies

I did speak to my pharmacist a month or 2 ago, he's powerless, he did recommend a gp who he knows prescribed oestrogen and testosterone but that's the surgery who are oversubscribed and can't take any more new patients, I rang and asked

I just have to hope this gynaecologist listens and is pro hrt

Could be coincidence but I'm on day 4 of trying 3 pumps oestrogel and feeling pretty good on it, typical eh? But I do have a stash that I'd been building up and know I can buy from an online pharmacy but would work out expensive at £30 for every 2.5-3 weeks x

Annie this is just beyond belief! I could understand if it was say an unlicensed product like testosterone where an unconfident GP might want to refer you - but bog standard HRT!!! You doc is ignorant and sonds like you have grounds for complaint if he is not prepared to look at your medical history and follow the NICE Guidelines. I posted on Diasydot's thread about legal advice with what I could find on NHS website but it probably is not sufficient as it is too general.

Dr Currie might be able to advise here ie what is your legal right to HRT in these circumstances if a doc refuses to follow the Guidelines and take into account your symptoms and medical history. I can understand their wanting to reveiw everything but should look at your symptoms - you the patient!!!

Glad you have plenty of supplies to keep you going while you sort this out - but what about women who don't? Will they be completely refused HRT? This is so bad.....

I'm still reeling over this.  I have to be calm before I work out what I do from here.  I said to hubby last night it'll make me not want to go there for any ailment from now on.

When I joined they called me in to review my hrt, that's where it all went wrong.  The dr who I got obviously is against hrt but I have no idea who would be there, I've only seen him and been there the once, I had no idea he'd take the oestrogen off me too.  His words at that meeting were (not exact) that his job is to give me a long, healthy life.  I said my hopes for the future are to have a happy and healthy life, which I felt my regime was giving me.  It was the ‘length' of life he was harping on about, that's when I said I'd rather my choice

I thought my fight would be using vagifem daily but (so far) he seems to be accepting that with no stipulation on when I can reorder, the oestrogel he expected to last me from 24 May to 16 July before he pulled it from me !
