Gp appointment didn’t go too bad
« on: June 12, 2018, 03:04:23 PM »

Hi ladies,
Went to see my gp today, some good points and some not so good, told her about my private appointment next week, and asked for her support, which she said she would if she is allowed,re prescriptions. I told her I needed a different progesterone, and suggested utrogestan, she said she wasn't allowed to prescribe it,but if consultant prescribed me it she may be able to get funding.she gave me a prescription for provera, but said not to put it in until I see what consultant prescribes. I told her about sandrena drying time,so she gave me some oestrogel to try. It also turns out that the man I am seeing next week, did her gynae training, she said he's lovely. Then shock horror she gave me another appointment for 3 weeks time.

Lisa, that sounds positive.  I would try the Oestrogel and I think you will prefer it because it dries far more quickly.  It might be worth splitting the dose by about 12 hours to keep your oestrogen levels as even as possible and avoiding any dips throughout the day.

I use (vaginal) Utrogestan but I don't like it - I don't get on with any form of progesterone - but I am going to try Provera myself.  Apparently it is well tolerated so if you find you don't get on with Utrogestan (assuming that is what you eventually get) for any reason, it is another option for you.

It will be interesting to see what the specialist prescribes.

That was a good appointment by the sound of it.

I too have a new GP who saw me, arranged a blood test and booked me in for another appointment with her after the results were out.  I went to that this morning and she then made me another appointment for July after my next thyroid blood test!  This is unheard of.  I'm in shock.

That's good, Lisa! Hopefully onward and upward! :)

I think you'll get along with the Estrogel much better. xxxx

She sounds like she cares Lisa, and that is reassuring.  At my old surgery I had a caring middle aged Asian female dr and she was so sweet and really listened to what I told her I needed x

Great news Lisa - apart from the utrogestan - if you do want to try this and your consultant recommends it - I would ask her why she says she can't prescribe it - since it is approved by NICE and you are actually entitled to have it! If you want to use bio-identical ie body-identical products because it is the only progesterone licensed for HRT. As such I would suggest you should be able to insist on it ( in the way that you might not be able to insist on a particualr oestrogen patch for example). My GP for example probably wasn't allowed to prescribe me testosterone but you can bypass the system as long as you justify it - which is what my GP did and I presume there is something similar where you live.

Anyway I'm jumping ahead here -  I hope you find the Oestrogel better. I would be interested in your comparison with the Sandrena especially - having used this and not the Oestrogel.

That's great to get another appointment in 3 weeks!!

Good luck with it all and especially next week at your consultant appointment :)

Thank you ladies,at least I have her support,I think it was the right thing to do,instead of going to see her after the consultants letter had arrived,I've been up front with her.

Herdity she said she wasn't allowed to prescribe utrogestan,I can't remember why,but each town and city has their own rules for gps to follow,I said to her,so it's a postcode lottery, and she agreed and said it was unfair, but let's not forget that she prescribed me utovlan, which is unlicensed for use as hrt xx

This can be tricky, as I believe Sandrena is more concentrated than Estrogel and there may also be variation in how much you absorb abd how quickly.

Other ladies with more precise experience may be able to guide you more, but when I start Estrogel soon i'll be starting at 2 pumps, split 1 am and 1 pm to maintain a steady dose. I am hoping once this has built up that I can then move over to once daily dosing. xxxx
