Cyclo-progynova low stock
« on: June 02, 2018, 11:17:13 AM »

Hi

I've been prescribed this HRT but unfortunetly I can't seen to find a pharmacy which stocks it. Does anyone take this and can you tell me somewhere that can supply it please.

Thanks everyone

Hi Natlou - this HRT type is not often prescribed and is not even listed on this site. I looked it up and it has a 7 day break from the hormones which is more like a BCP and I wouldn't personally want to take this as you would might get withdrawal problems during this 7 days without the hormones - all other HRTs use oestrogen every day.  If you are very early peri meno then this might be suitable but there are now much more appropriate BCPs for the peri meno stage which have a 2 day break in the cycle e.g. Qlaira.
There are plenty of alternatives, so I would get back to you GP and ask for something like Femoston 1/10 or the Qlaira   BCP as either of these would be far better options. DG x

I was on cyclo progynova for 3 months. The break for 7 days wasn't a good experience and norgestel wasn't a soft progestin for me. I am on Femoston now and I feel better on it.

Thank you for the advice, I did find it odd that it was a 21 day treatment  :-\
I am going back to the consultant in two weeks so I will address this with them.

I had a full hysterectomy 4 years ago and have struggled to find a suitable HRT.  :(

I think that if you have a full hysterectomy, you only need estrogen and not progesterone.

Interesting that a consultant prescribed this, you'd expect them to know what they're doing!   I take progynova 1mg every day as i've Had a hysterectomy years ago but kept my ovaries, although i'm Now told I shouldn't have just had oestrogen as I suffered badly from endometriosis.

Could this be the reason for a break in taking them?   I've also struggled to prescription filled as it is (I think) not on NHS list now due to cost.

It's very confusing, I've been on tibilone, kliofem, estridiol and estrodot, and now Estelle combined with the progynova but they can't seem to manage my night sweats and mood swings. I suffer from terrible low moods and irritability.

I will have to speak to the consultant ASAP to double check exactly why she thinks the cyclo progynova will help. Thanks

I too had widespread endometriosis which is why they're treating me with a combined HRT

If you have endometriosis then the Mirena could be your best option as it is often good at controlling endometriosis whilst giving fewer progesterone side effects. Low mood and anxiety are difficult to control and often need an AD/SSRI alongside for many ladies.
With the Mirena in place it would give a low constant amount of progesterone that would hopefully reduce or stop unwanted bleeding, possibly reduce mood fluctuations as hormones go up and down but you could then have oestrogen as patch or gel at the amount that would help the sweats and possibly help the low mood.
It will be a range of strategies that will help with anxiety and low mood and this will include a good diet with some appropriate exercise ( eg brisk walking sessions everyday) and learning relaxation techniques.  Hrt alone will not sort everything. DG x

I have only just found out I should be on combined due to severe endometriosis before hysterectomy!   Am still on oestrogen only but hoping for a change next month, or tbh, I might just pack in the whole HRT thing.  The combined route seems a nightmare for endometriosis suffers.

Good luck with your prescription!

I've been on cyclo progynova 2mg for 3 months because old hrt Prempak C discontinued.  No ovaries as removed when I was 31 due to cysts caused by endometriosis.  I'm now 48.  I was on prempak c for years and happy.  Cyclo progynova isn't working for me.  Main side effect is tinnitus and light headed to the point where I can't walk properly.  GP absolutely useless.  I'm seeing gynaecologist again on 25/7 who prescribed cyclo but it's a strange one to be on.  I'm fuming with all health professionals as they've been no help when really it shouldn't have been this difficult or upsetting to find an alternative to prempak c.  Stay away from cyclo progynova.

Hi, Cazjen.

Just a thought - after this length of time, could you ask your Consultant if the endo. is likely to return if you don't take a progestin or progesterone? If you got along with prempac and they are happy for you to trial estrogen only HRT, then of course Premarin is still very much available.

Another choice for you might be Tibolone - I know an endo. lady of your age who is post oopherectomy who has done quite well on this. I tried it post oopherectomy, but couldn't settle on it as it had components that turned out to not be compatible with my MS, which was undiagnosed at the time so of course this makes my experience rather unusual! xxxc
