Testogel / Testosterone
« on: May 21, 2018, 01:12:46 PM »

HI there,

I have been to see a bio-identical hormone man called Professor Studd.  He said I was Progesterone intolerant, as i always had PMT and didn't feel good for a week of the month on Femeston.

He has recommended testosterone, plus 3 pumps of Oestrogen and also a tablet for 7 days to make me have a period.  Just wondering if any of you have had Testogel and has it helped?

Does anyone know where it should be put?  I think he said my inside of my upper arm.  Is that right?  Or inner thigh?  I don't want to suddenly get really hairy!
He said to use one sachet a week.. this seems a lot though.  I have used it for one week and feel OK so far.   Have any of you had any symptoms using Testogel?

I am 48 and started having hot flushes 3 years ago.  I was on Duavive and oestrogen pump but was worried about taking Duavive - I think it made me too flat somehow and slightly lacking in emotion  (I think)  I am usually someone that has ups and downs.

Thanks so much,
Phia xx

Hi Phia,
I've been taking testosterone (Testim gel) for just over 6 weeks. I put it on my thigh (the dr suggested to put it there), haven't had any hair growth yet but that probably emerges gradually after months. I was advised to make one tube of gel last 10 days. I make it last a few days longer than that: I used 3 tubes in 48 days rather than the expected 30 days, and it is helping already.

Hi Wilks, I mentioned in another chat topic that my doctor wants me to go on that gel too. However, I will have to get it shipped from Interstate. It will cost me a mint. 1. What does it do? 2. Are the benefits worth the huge amount of money I will have to pay?

Hi Phia, I have just started Duavive. It's new to the market in Australia. My doctor put me on it as it's marketed as being gentler on the olde boobs...ie. soreness and discomfort. I am finding the opposite to you as it's making me more emotional. And also it's not relieving my symptoms that effectively. I am wondering if you or any other of the lovely ladies who contribute to these forums know of other estrogen tablet types and/or brands I could take?
Phia, I hope you get the gel thing sorted soon ❤️

Hi Mrs Bella,
I started Testim just under 2 months ago and I'm noticing benefits from it already. The problem is that the manufacturer is discontinuing it imminently (don't know if that's worldwide or just the Uk). When I got my prescription I had to visit several pharmacies before I found one that had a box left. The good news is that there are other testosterone gels available which would do the same job.
It doesn't work for everyone but it's working for me so I'd be prepared to pay more for it.

Thanks Wilks! I will ask my GP about then. X

Hi, thanks so much for the replies.. I have found Testosterone gel really helping.  I have far more energy and I feel much more myself... plus my libido is now better than ever!  I wonder if I've always been lacking in it... Weirdly, I think possibly my face is looking slightly fuller and my lips are plumper again.  Still slightly worried about where to put it.  I've had hair removal laser on my inner thigh so I don't really want to put it there xx

Phia, at the menopause clinic I attended they recommend putting testosterone gel on the abdomen just above the pubic hairline, so that if any hair growth results, it won't be too obvious.

Personally I wouldn't put it near to any of my organs.  Also it is transferred laterally through the skin quite a distance. Because of some odd side effects when I put on upper inner thigh, (in addition to hair growth all over inner thigh) I changed position to bottom of inner thigh just to left and right of knee. Hair growth is something you might just have to put up with Phia and get it removed regularly - but by all means follow Joaniepat's (and the menopause clinic's!) suggestion. I wonder if docs at the menopause clinic have tried it thenselves though!!! As far as I know there is no (publshed) research on this ie different application sites of gel on different parts of the body, T levels and side effects. Intrinsa (T) patches were tested on buttocks and front lower abdomen - from memory.

Hurdity, that's interesting about where Intrinsia patches were tested. Current advice about gel application sites at Chelsea & Westminster is outer thighs for Oestrogel and abdomen for testosterone.

I changed to outer thighs for two of my Oestrogel pumps, where I find it dries quicker, but still have to put the third one on inner thigh. Testogel goes on the other inner thigh just above knee. Fortunately I have not experienced any hair growth since starting Testogel in January, so guess I'm one of the lucky ones
