3 months supply or 1?
« on: May 14, 2018, 07:29:36 AM »

Hi ladies,

My repeat prescription for patches only gives me 1 months supply whereas the oral hrt which I used prior to this was 3 months. I found it much more convenient when it was 3 monthly and am not really sure why it changed. Is this standard procedure for patches? Do any of you manage to get a 3 monthly prescription of patches?

Thanks

Thanks Dotty,
Is that 3 bottles or does it only come a 3 month sized bottle?

My repeat prescriptions are always two months for everything, although I have had one month repeats for HRT products if it is something I have just started. Have you just started on the patches?

No I've been on them for around 2 years now. I'm thinking if some people are given larger quantities then I might ask for more. I wonder if practices have different policies regarding quantity or if it was initially because it was newly prescribed and then wasnt changed. I get a bit panicky about running out  😳 and it would save the gp time.

Thanks Joaniepat

Patches have always been one month at a time for me. Pharmacist says they are expensive which is also why they don't carry them in stock

That makes sense Taz although you would think that once you've been on them a while they might prescribe more as it takes the gp time to print the repeats

Thanks for replying

Thanks Daisydot. It sounds as though what I'm getting is in line with others then. Not what I'd hoped but never mind. It's making such a difference now that I dont want to be without EVER  ;D

Taz, I think the HRT products available on the NHS are a drop in the ocean compared to the cost of some other drugs, for example, some anticonvulsants and meds for diabetes. The price of some drugs supplied to the NHS keeps sky-rocketing due to the greed of the drug companies. There was something on the news about this a few months ago. They know they can charge what they like and the NHS has to cough up.

Thanks Dotty, I'm guessing the gel is as expensive as the patches so maybe it's down to individual practices rather than cost. Were you prescribed that amount right from when you started it?
