Just been to drs
« on: April 03, 2018, 05:49:49 PM »

Evening everyone,

So I have just got all my courage up to go to the Drs, so he checked my cervix, all fine, took a couple of swabs, and checked my uterus, said it felt fine, I have got to go for blood test tomorrow to check my hormone levels and also he wants me to go for a scan, but I think It can take about six weeks, now I am really stressing about this, I'm scared they will find something sinister, has anyone else had one of these and got stressed out over it, I'm wondering if everything settles down this month, should I still go, I have such anxiety over test, I really need to get over this, I nearly made myself sick going to the Drs.

Anyway thanks for letting me rant xxx

Hey herbie, sounds like your dr is just being very thorough. Unless you've presented with any medically suspect symptoms I'd really try not to worry. But I know where you're at as I was you about 18 months ago and if conbinced mysekf I had cancer did to backache which of course resolved with HRT. Anxiety is a major part of menopause. Have you tried any mindfulness, it works for me. Sure it'll all be fine x

You rant, it helps.  Your GP is being thorough.  If he/she had any worries U would have been fast tracked for the scan.  Yep.  Lots of people get nervous ..........

Browse round. Make notes!

Did you have symptoms that led you to go to the doctor? Is this why you're worried? If so then the checks are presumably to rule out any problems that are the cause of whatever symptoms you've been experiencing and good to be thorough for peace of mind - or if necessary - for appropriate treatment.

Yeah sorry I should have mentioned that I had pre period spotting last month for 7 days, this month it's almost nothing but it was bothering me, so I'm hoping it will disappear completely, that's why he checked cervix, uterus etc.

Thanks

Although you are obviously anxious about the scan I think you should take this opportunity to have things checked out so you know that everything is in good order.

The scan itself is nothing to worry about. You will probably have an external and internal one. You usually have to have a full bladder (the worst part - don't sneeze  ;D) for the external one which is just an ultrasound over your tummy. Then you should be allowed to go to the loo to empty your bladder and then you will probably have an internal one with a probe which isn't as bad as it sounds..

You can read about the procedure here - I think it's the same at most hospitals. https://www.thh.nhs.uk/documents/_Patients/PatientLeaflets/radiology/PI045-Pelvic_Ultrasound_Apr13.pdf  You should be sent an advice sheet before your appointment.
