Breast ultrasound
« on: March 29, 2018, 08:22:06 AM »

Hi
I stopped HRT 10 months ago but really want to start it again as the symptoms are not getting any better just worse. But when I went to see the gynaecologist she did breast examination & found a tiny nobule. Anyway she sent me for an ultrasound & he said it was just a cyst & also found a fibroid & come back in 6 months for another scan. The thing is even though they said everything was ok I still am worried. The gynae also said don't take the HRT until to absolutely have to. I seem to have a barrier up now about taking the HRT. I live in Spain so it was a Spanish gynae that I went to see. Has anyone come up with this scenario?

I am no expert but found this

If an abnormality is seen on mammography or felt by physical exam, ultrasound is the best way to find out if the abnormality is solid (such as a benign fibroadenoma or cancer) or fluid-filled (such as a benign cyst)

I would therefore assume they found it was fluid filled and you have nothing to worry about. :)

Thanks for that. You know how you wind yourself up by worrying about something even when they said everything is ok. it really helps discussing it.

paisley, I know it's easy to say but please don't worry about breast cysts or other benign lumps, they are very common.  Like you, I have breast ultrasound (every year in my case) and they show up all sorts of things that are not detected on mammograms and mine showed up a cyst.  If they thought there was any chance of it being something sinister, you would have to have it removed immediately and sent for a biopsy.  Someone I know in Spain had to have this procedure and she was told if she refused, her health insurance would not cover her for anything breast related in the future.  They don't take any chances.  I should add that breast cysts are nothing to do with cancer, they are sacs of liquid that never turn into cancer.  If someone has a lump that turns into cancer then it was not a cyst.  I have spoken to various breast specialists about this at length and it does not preclude you from taking HRT.

Not all gynaecologists are pro-HRT so don't let it put you off starting the Lenzetto which I have to say is brilliant.  You were told not to take HRT until you have to and if that time is now then why not start?

Maryg thanks so much.
You are right they wouldn't say everything is ok if it wasn't
I will start lenzetto as quality of life is not good at mo and I keep thinking if I just hold out a little longer I might be over the worst but I am just kidding myself

Good luck with the Lenzetto, I think you will like it.   I am doing two pumps every day split by about 12 hours.

Perhaps you could start a new thread charting your progress?

Hi paisley - sorry to hear about your worries re your breast cyst. here is a link which explains about them - and I'm sure you've done your own research: https://www.breastcancercare.org.uk/publications/benign-breast-conditions/breast-cysts-bcc73

It is important to continue to be breast aware though and to report anything or any changes or lumps which concern you - and I presume you have regular 3 yearly mammograms too? Not sure what the situation is in Spain?
