Twitching?
« on: March 27, 2018, 05:43:59 PM »

Thanks to Prof Studd's regime I am 95% cured of my dreadful peri anxiety and depression thank God. My own cycle is almost totally suppressed now, and a recent scan showed my womb lining was nice and thin, despite being on 4 pumps + only 100 gms of Utrogestan for 7 days per month.

Occasionally though, I think my own cycle does try and assert its mischief again, usually toward the end of a month just before I start Utrogestan on the 1st. And I have noticed I start experiencing annoying muscle twitches.

Could this be linked to my own progesterone trying to surge?

When you say muscle twitching, how do you mean?
Only reason I ask is my legs have been painful and had initially thought could be a DVT but checks today said definitely not.
I've been getting weird bubble like feelings in my leg and arm muscles lately.
Thankyou

Hi GypsyRoseLee,

I've been struggling hugely with peri anxiety and depression and have an appointment in a months time to try and sort it out. It's encouraging to hear you are improving. How long did it take for the regime you are using to start making a difference? Are you also using testosterone?

I'm sorry I'm unable to help with your question re twitching

Could it be a lack of salt at this time of the month?

Hi Alan

It doesn't feel like bubbles at all. Just very quick twitches in my torso and legs and bum. I've noticed it before when I'm having off days.

GRL, it's good to hear from you again and I'm so pleased that your HRT regime is continuing to go so well.  Re the twitching, I sometimes get that before a period so it could be progesterone related.  It tends to affect my face and legs but it goes away quickly once my period starts.

I'm glad your scan went well.  Most women are fine on 100mg Utrogestan for 7 days but it is always a good idea to have a scan just to make sure.

Hi Robin

I'm very happy to help, this place was a lifeline to me when I thought I was going insane.

I started on 3 pumps + 100gm Utro for 7 days + little blonde of testim every day nearly 2 years ago. Previous HRT patches and 200mg of Utrogestan for 15 days a month, did nothing.

For the first 2 months Prof Studd's regime made no difference, so I increased to 4 pumps. Within a few days I felt a change. Very slowly my mood and anxiety started to improve, but it was very much 3 steps forward then 2 steps back. This was the pattern for the next few months. But slowly the good days started outweighing the bad, and after about 6 months I was enjoying several weeks at a time of complete normality again, which was wonderful.

Those several weeks stretched into a few months of normality at a time. For the last year I've only had to deal with a few days of my old symptoms and they're not as severe at all. I think these times are just when my cycle tries to shrug off the suppression of my HRT regime, but it never lasts. I'm having an 'off' few days at the moment, but this is the first time since before Xmas.

And I KNOW it's hormonal because I had to deal with a horribly stressful situation at New Year and I wasn't anxious at all.

The twitching is very common and with me you can see the muscles pumping up and down as if a little alien is in there! I've read it's neurological and similar to adrenaline surges and all benign. Just a bit disconcerting when it happens.  :o

I've never experienced progesterone surges and defo won't now as I've got anovulatory cycles which seem here to stay. I think mine were worse during my period but not had for a while.

Electrolyte imbalance can also cause them, just in case you've added in any mineral supplements.

Glad you're doing well!

Hi MaryG

Lovely to hear from you again. I'm confused as to when my 'natural' cycle would be nowadays, since the HRT has been suppressing it. I'll start the Utro on the 1st for 7 days, then I'll get a very light withdrawal bleed around the 14th for 2-3 days. But toward the end of the month seems to be when I get these symptoms sometimes.

Sorry, I'm laughing as your predicted text or whatever is calling them Alan and Robin!!

As for the twitching..yes I have experienced this quite a lot but it's calmed down. i put it down to hormones and I opened a thread about it and was reassured by the other ladies that they have had it too.

Yes you too! I'm doing great thank you as I seem to have my regime figured out now too.

That's really helpful for others to know that it can take a while to suppress the cycle enough with the Oestrogel. It's all too easy to get impatient when we're suffering so badly and feel so desperate.

Hi GypsyRoseLee

Lovely to hear from you and especially that you are doing so well because I so remember your difficulties and the ups and downs of your various experiences and trials with HRT, and we were with you (in empathy) with your despair.

Sorry I can't help with the twitches either and also not sure what happens when the cycle is suppressed with high oestrogen in terms of how your own cycle can try to break though?

I also loved the predictive text - but Snoooze there is a Robin but not an Alan! GRL - I loved the "little blonde of testim"  ;D

Anyway just good to hear from you and hope the twitching stops!

That's ok Snoooze you made me smile and that doesn't happen much anymore.

Thank you so much for your reply GypsyRoseLee. I'm sorry you've had to go through all you have but really pleased to hear things have improved for you. You mentioned feeling like you were going insane and that's how I've felt for more than five years now. I considered that as my username. I'd given up on life and just wanted it be over but I've decided to give it one last go at trying to improve things. Hence joining this forum rather than just lurking on the sidelines and making a private appointment. I'm really dreading the appointment as I know I will find it really difficult but you have given me a little bit of hope that it might be possible for things to change for me too.

I hope the good days continue in abundance for you and that you manage to get rid of the twitching

Thank you for taking the time to reply
Robin
