Hi Sphere - I haven't tried them but I would think it's best to wait until you've seen your GP so that you can give a true picture of how you are?

Are you also suffering from stress incontinence or just the irritable bladder symptoms?

Use an over-the-counter pain relief as well!

Are you using any HRT or topical oestrogen?

It does sound as if you would benefit from topical oestrogen if no infection has been found. Do you have to get up many times during the night?

Sphere27 - you probably have urogenital atrophy that needs local oestrogen treatment e.g. Vagifem.  Anti biotics will actually make things worse if you don't have an infection.  Any urine tests need to be sent to the lab for proper tests to see if there is infection.

Try drinking a glass of water with half a teaspoon of bicarbonate soda in it morning and evening for a couple of days. Avoid caffeine, fruit juices and anything too acidic but drink lots of water.

Try using some Multi Gyn Actigel ( you can sometimes get this at the chemist but I usually buy it online) as this will restore the flora balance in the vaginal area to reduce irritation.  If things “don't feel right” it is highly likely your vaginal flora is not good (common when meno hits) and this will cause irritation and soreness and can result in bacterial vaginitis that will irritate the urethra and cause this constant need to pee.

With regular use of local oestrogen(Vagifem or Ovestin) and vaginal moisturisers ( SYLK or the YES products are the best) you can maintain a healthy environment that reduces these symptoms.  DG x

I need Vagifem as well as systemic HRT, I would definitely give it a try if I was you.

I have had urinary urgency for the past year or so, every doctor I have seen told me it had nothing to do with being in perimenopause.  They sent so far as to run a bunch of urinary tests, looking inside my bladder, doing a uro-dynamics test to see if my system is working and flowing properly.  All came back fine.  So when I asked again if it could be related to perimenopause, they still said no but offered no other logical explanation as to why this came on literally overnight.  I'm so sick of doctors telling me that my symptoms are not related to perimenopause and that there is nothing they can do to help me.  But I am comforted to know reading on here that other women have had this same issue.

Many women have prolapses if they've had babies. If you had any major prolapses then this would have been noticed if you're been examined recently.
I have a slight prolapse but not considered an issue. A prolapse could effect bladder function though and if you think you have this then you should be examined. Unfortunately bladder urgency and burning urethra is usually atrophy related. DG x
