Is This a New Symptom ?
« on: March 12, 2018, 04:25:37 PM »

Hello Ladies.

I'd like to pick your brains again if you don't mind so here goes.

I've recently started a new HRT regime of Oestrogel 2 pumps per day and Utrogestan orally. All seemed to be going well and I was hoping to be free of the flushes and internal shaking that have plagued me during my menopause. Last Tuesday I felt better and was even thinking about getting back into exercise but on Wednesday lunchtime I  suddenly felt flushy and exhausted and I've been feeling weak and panicky ever since. Could I be experiencing the exhaustion that some of you ladies have written about ? I also rarely have health anxiety but I'm worrying about this lack of energy and starting to think I'm really ill. I was told I am low in iron and that may be a factor but why has it come on so suddenly, plus I've lost my appetite, feel panicky and my sweats seem to have ramped up again. Could this be a virus or low iron or a symptom of the menopause that I haven't had before?

Thanks for reading ladies and sorry to go on but I'm working myself into a state and my usual remedy of taking a brisk walk is out of the question atm because all I want to do is lay on the bed!

Many thanks and wishing everyone well.

Hi I'm sure someone more experienced will add to your thread but just wanted to let you know my experience of iron deficiency, it can make you feel totally exhausted in my experience, and breathless, have you had your vit D checked also, that made me feel dreadful, unable to function actually! :(

Kathleen - I'm not sure what is causing your new problems.  Can you contact the specialist that you saw?

Hello Dotty and Smitten and thank you for responding.

Smitten - My GP told me that low iron can cause fatigue, headache,  nausea, anorexia ( not wanting to eat ), shortness  of breath, cold hands and feet and motility disorder which means constipation I think. Quite a list I think you'll agree and I have them all except headache and constipation. Oddly I felt better able to cope when I thought everything was down to hormones but now I'm really panicking about what the low iron is doing to me.  I have never had my Vitamin D checked but I will buy some tomorrow and see if it helps.

Dotty - You have reminded me that I need to report back to the specialist so I will save my pennies and book an appointment in the near future.

Thank you again ladies for reading my tale of woe and I am grateful for your comments.

Wishing you both well.

I don't have low iron, but you have described exactly what happens to me. Everyone calls it anxiety or panic, and yes I do get anxious and panicky over it, but I can only guses it's hormonal and maybe the crashing fatigue everyone talks about. Its not happening very often to me now but I could be fine one minute and the next feel what you described.

Hello Lizab and thank you for responding.

Feeling fine one minute and terrible the next is definitely a scenario that I'm familiar with unfortunately.  I certainly felt the flushing, exhaustion and mood change creep up on me last week but it has really spooked me, probably because I'm now fretting about being anaemic. Ye gods I hate the menopause!

Thank you for your reassurance, it was kind of you to post.

Wishing you well.

Get a blood test for lack of iron and low VitD levels?

Hello Dotty and thank you for your concern.

I am feeling a little better today but who knows how long that will last lol. My trusty meno book talks about a sense of unease that comes with the meno and I would certainly agree with that!

Thank you once again and wishing you well.

Hi Kathleen! Maybe it's just a stress reaction and nothing more severe! Maybe you just didn't feel well for a while due to stress and nothing more! If you have it again, maybe it's something else. Sometimes I try to find problems and symptoms and it's like to make myself to relate everything with meno! 😘
