One year ago today
« on: March 01, 2018, 10:29:59 AM »

Hi
It's a year today since I had my total hysterectomy.
I know not everyone agrees and that we all have different experiences but for me it really was  the correctt decision.
No more pmdd, no more progesterone intolerance, no more womb changes in my very thick womb lining, no more erratic bleeding.
The mood change has been incredible, I have gone from depression for which I ended up under the cmht, to no depression. My ovaries were the bane of my life.
I do still have anxiety and low mood occasionally but I have always had that, it's not menopause related.
I'm not the person I was before perimenopause started and I don't think I will be again. Personally I believe the menopause has changed me hugely, not just mentally but physically and I'm now coming to terms with that.
However, I'm in a new place, feeling much more optimistic about life and the new phase I'm now in.
Of course it's not all plain sailing, I'm on a high dose of estrogen, I'm tired a lot, skins dry etc. I have to tell myself that this is all part of the new stage of life, and I can cope with it, I'm adjusting my lifestyle to do this.
I just wanted to send out some positive words trombone my experience to anyone considering the procedure.

Hi walkingthedog,

It's so lovely to hear how well you're doing. It's nine months since my total hysterectomy and I have to say I feel the same as you.

Yes I get the occasional off day but on the whole I'm doing a lot better.

Can I ask, what dose of estrogen are you on? I'm currently on Estradot75 and wondering whether to increase to Estradot100 as my hot flushes have come back. They're not too bothersome but they do happen.

Keep up the good work xxx  :)

Hi claireylou
Glad to hear your doing well too.
I'm on evorel 75 I was on estradot but changed when they were hard to get hold off. I do have the occasional hot flush and I never feel cold not even in the snow.
If your flushes are bad I'd increase the dose xx

Thanks wtd,

I'm wondering if Estradot is the best one for me to be honest. Having a lot of hair fall when I brush. Maybe it's time for a change xxx

I'm working on it  :D
It's been prescribed by the Specialist I'm seeing to get me to a good, stable level so they can rule menopause out of the symptoms I'm having. My latest Oestrogen level was 710 which is so much better than the 195 when I was using just 100 mcg. It's a work in progress  ;D

walkingthedog, many thanks for the update, I'm so pleased the hysterectomy has had such a positive effect on you and as you say, you no longer have to worry about progesterone intolerance and can take oestrogen only HRT - what bliss!

Your post gives hope to the many severely progesterone women like myself who have been advised to have a hysterectomy.  Obviously it is a major operation and not something to be entered into lightly but it is better than battling on for years on end with progesterone.

Long may your success continue!
