Good news and next step?
« on: February 12, 2018, 05:05:40 PM »

Hi,

This time last week I was a tearful emotional wreck through lack of sleep due to severe hot flushes on the hour every hour in the night.

I started taking Sage tablets and also had my second session of 'Bowen Therapy', this time my therapist concentrated on 'hormonal work'....

This morning I have just woken from the best nights sleep in weeks (one mild flush at 5am) and my flushes are now few and far between and much milder.

My question is this....

I have a Dr's appointment to discuss peri menopause with my GP on Feb 28th.  I suffered with severe hot flushes last June for 5 weeks, same thing happened, by the time my Dr's appointment came around the flushes had stopped.

At this point I don't know if the sage or Bowen have helped or whether my flushes have petered out of their own accord.

Is there any point in my still going to my GP.  Are there any steps I could take at this point in preparation for my next bout of flushes if/when they happen.....

Should I just cancel the appointment and wait and see?  The problem being if they come back as severely as last June I would like to have a plan of action in place...

Sorry for the garbled post... Any advice welcomed! :-)

Hi alibeau. Are you still having periods? Lots of us on here have found that flushes disappear in the weeks leading up to a period so could this be happening to you?

At your age it may be advisable to begin HRT, at least up to the normal meno age of around 50/51. Oestrogen protects your heart and bones so you may be at risk if your levels are lower than is normal for your age. HRT before the age of 50/51 carries no risks. Have you thought about the possibility of HRT? I would keep the appointment.

HI Taz,

Thanks for your reply.  Yes still having pretty regular periods with the odd blip here and there.... and with the blip comes the hot flushes.... and yes you are right, my period is due soon.

My Mum who is 80 has osteoporosis which is of course a worry to me....

I would discuss all of this with your GP. With your mum's history of osteoporosis it may be advisable for you to have a bone scan to check for any early changes?

It will be interesting to see if your period arrives now that the flushes have stopped. Keep a diary so you can see if there is a pattern.

Thanks Taz, yes I have kept a diary for a few years on an app so I have all the info to hand.   ;)

I kept my appointment last year, again when the flushes had stopped, female GP who's attitude was 'well what are you doing here then?'..... She said I fell into the 'normal age' bracket of 45 - 55 and sent me on my way!

Hence my 'worry' of keeping this next appointment....
