Everol and migraines
« on: January 09, 2018, 07:49:53 PM »

Hi Guys,

Just looking for a bit of advice.  I started on everol 25mcg a few months ago and have recently increased it to 50mcg patch 1 week ago. Over the weekend I experienced a 3 day migraine (vestibular and silent aura) and it is attempting to rear its head again today.

I feel the way I felt around a year ago when the Peri-meno migraines first started. I remember them getting worse when I first started the HRT patches but then they improved again after around 3 weeks and I felt much better. I'm hoping the same will occur with the increased dose but the migraines are worse than when I first started. I'm hoping it's just the fluctuations in oestrogen until they stabilise.

My question is how long do you think I should give it before reducing my dose again. It was increased due to my aches and pains and am only 41.

Thanks for your help

Have you had a hysterectomy - are you just using oestrogen?  At your age the slightly higher dose of oestrogen is advisable to protect you heart and bones. It does sound to me as though your body is adjusting to this increase in oestrogen, so I expect this will settle. I'm afraid headaches are all part of the menopause journey and a common side effect of HRT.  If you were still getting some bleeding or spotting before you started HRT, then you own hormones may be doing the occasional spike which could cause the headaches.
I wouldn't worry - things may well settle.   DG x

Ah thank you dancing girl, that's great. No I've got a Mirina coil and last year just became really unwell with night sweats, dry eyes, New vestibular migraines, general foggyness, weakness and lower back pain, Urine infection  they thought it might be perimenopause as I've had every other test under the sun and they could find what was wrong. I didn't feel well when I first started there 25mcg but this settled after about 3 weeks and just felt unwell at ovulation and after a bleed but much more like my old self in between so we upped the patch to see if it would help but again have felt worse. It's only been just over a week though so will give it time.

My bloods were always normal but didn't bleed for 8 years with my first mirina but since I had t changed in April have bled every 28-35 days until this month and haven't bled at all.

Thank you for getting back to me, it's all a minefield!

I suspect your own oestrogen levels have dropped and it's going to take a bit of time for  the increase in oestrogen dose to settle.
The Mirena often results in no bleeding at all. DG x
