Physically sick with anxiety
« on: December 11, 2017, 08:25:12 AM »

Hello everyone

I've been on the low dose of Novofem combined HRT for 2 years and it works very well…no more hot flushes, no joint pain etc, however I don't bleed every month. However my anxiety is through the roof and I was physically sick last night due to my symptoms. In short, we have the neighbour from hell (police involved, music, anti-social behaviour etc) and this is what's causing it. This neighbour has been like this for 5 years, but it's just in the last 8 months my anxiety has increased and is now affecting sleep and day to day life on a large scale. I can not remove the neighbour (we are trying to move) but I just need to calm down, as I am turning into a nervous wreck.

My question is, do you think I need an increase in HRT or do I need some anti-depressants (or whatever they give for anxiety). I need something at this moment in time, as I'm scared for my mental state.

Thank you

Sorry to hear you're having such an awful time - it sounds so stressful.  :foryou:
My thought is to keep returning to your GP as it will act as a record of your symptoms and the effect of the living situation you are in, which might help your case against your neighbours.

Has your GP suggested trying a higher dose?

Sorry about my ramblings...lack of sleep.

My doctor (who was lovely) has given me 28 days of Sertraline (1/2 a tablet a day)...as he thinks I'm having constant panic attacks and this should help. Wish me luck

You ramble!   What support are you getting from Police Support for this type of issue and your Local Council ?  Do access what is available!

I was going to suggest an anti-anxiety treatment, either daily or 'as necessary'.  Your GP may be able to write a Report in the New Year to send to the Police and Local Council, there maybe a fee ......... but it might be worth while asking!

Pinkfizz - don't change teh HRT as its working fine adn if you increase you may find you upset the balance.  Ads/SRRIs may well be the answer to get you through this tough time.  It must be awful - I do sympathise.
Good luck. DG x

On the HRT side - if you don't bleed every month then you may well benefit from an increased dose of oestrogen to help with the anxiety - which may be partly due to the HRT or the progestogen. Tablet HRT can make some women nauseous but unlikely due to this if you've been taking them for two years. If there is nothing else wrong with you physically ( causing the nausea) then it does sound as though it is your situation causing these unpleasant physical symptoms and perhaps in these difficult cirumstances you describe, a short-term anti-depressant might help - if the HRT is otherwise working. However I would consider maybe changing to a transdermal type like Evorel or Femseven sequi and seeing how you get on - and if you still don't get a bleed - perhaps discuss with your doc about going on a slightly longer cycle of separate oestrogen and progesterone. Or - if you tolerate the patches well and end up feeling better - maybe try continuous combined HRT (no-bleed) - which keeps the levels of both hormones stable.

Short-term ADs ......... with experience I would suggest no less than 6 months as it can take up until then B4 1 realises that there is benefit  ;) particularly when stressed or at This Time of Year  ::)

Ladies...as always thank you!

It's been a rough week, I have started ADs and unfortunately I have dreadful anxiety today...however I have read it can get worse before it gets better. Has anyone ever experienced this?

I am going to hypnotherapy tonight, just to try and calm.

As for neighbour well, the guy has mental issues (caused by too many recreational drugs!), who is an ex offender and is on long term sick...however we are still looking for a nice rental property that will take us AND our cat (no one wants pets) . We will then put our house on the market and look for something new to buy in our own time. Isn't sad that we have been chased out of our home by a complete piece of trash! However, I just could not take anymore and frankly the police were just interested in a neighbour dispute.

What an awful position you are in - I really feel for you.
I believe it is quite normal to feel worse on ADs, mood wise, to start with before the benefits kick in - your GP should have warned you about this and perhaps prescribed something extra to help you through this phase.
Good luck - hopefully 2018 will bring positive change. DG x

What a dreadful situation to be in.  Your neighbour from hell is the one who should be moving not you, but under the circumstances, I think you are doing the right thing and I hope you can find a decent place to rent, sell your house and start afresh somewhere else next year.

It's difficult to know whether your HRT is working at a terrible time like this.  Most people would end up on ADs in your situation so I would stick with them and your current HRT regime and have a review once you move.

I wish you well.

Do ring all the Agents in your area, several people who let allow pets in our region.  Our neighbours are renting and they have a dog and a cat  ::).  Do you have lots of stuff?  Perhaps a B&B or small hotel that allows a pet?  You could put a note in the Vets., GPs Surgery, check Agents web-sites etc..  Or check kennel prices, often they give an adjusted rate for long-termers ;-)

Cut the alcohol.  Many ladies find that it doesn't suit them as hormone levels alter.  Also, print out the advice for husbands on here to hand over ;-)
