So glad I found this site
« on: November 24, 2017, 06:31:29 PM »

Hi everyone
I've just had to join after reading loads of your posts on a subject close to most women, I finally saw my Doctor this week my blood test says I'm peri menopausal, I have been having hot flushes since the beginning of the year and sleep deprivation for the past few months and don't get me started on the aching muscles in the back of my legs!!! My Doc was great she explained the pros and cons of HRT and made me aware that it might take a while to get the right dosage that will help me she asked if I was happy to start taking it or if I wanted to go away and think about it first but as I'm so tired due to lack of sleep and fed up walking around like a 100 yr old woman I said YES so she has prescribed Elleste Duet 1mg and cocodamol to help my legs, I was dreading going to the Docs its hard to convince someone that your having a hard time when you look..........healthy.
A lot of the posts on here have helped me understand the menopause I never would have thought the sore muscles was a menopause symptom, So this is the start of my 1st month on HRT fingers crossed that it will agree with me.

Hello Plodding on and welcome to the forum.

As you've discovered the effects of the menopause are many and varied and I wish you luck with your HRT regime.

Take care and keep posting.

 :welcomemm:

as oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: eyes, deep in the ears, nostrils, vagina, skin as well as muscles may get lax = aches and pains.  I had restless leg syndrome so do try more fruits and veg which might ease your leg pain, bananas cured it for me.  Or Nurofen as I go to bed if I can feel them pulling.

Other aches and pains 4 me vary and wander round the body on a weekly basis ........  ::)

Browse round.  Make notes.

HI Plodding on,

I'm new here too, also 'peri', brought here by stress with hideous periods. The most odd thing I've had in the last two years is large scale muscle twitching, it scared me for a few months, and moves around from leg to arm to anywhere it feels like randomly. Im really glad your GP has put a plan of action in place for you. Take care.

Another twitcher! I've had it bad in peri but seems to have calmed now (touch wood).

I've also had the aching legs.

Yet another twitcher here!  I actually watched my left calf twitch the other night. Reminded me of when I was pregnant and the baby was moving....bizarre! :D

You have no idea the relief Ive felt to find out the twitching was hormone (and anxiety) related and not something more sinister. I figured it out this way - when I went on tamoxifen a year and a half ago, I had a rather extreme response, with awful complete oestrogen depeletion, and doc said it shut down my oesterogen almost totally and immediately (which isnt meant to occur, it works by a different mechanism). My muscle twitching at that point was to the point of random large scale 'jerking' like spasms which could obviously be seen by anybody clearly lol, after stopping tamoxifen it went back down to the random muscle twitching which has remained......and I began the journey of Peri kick started by tamoxifen. So, I can confirm to anyone worried about this twitching, its hormone related (and probably tiredness too lol) . I didnt realise but muscles do make some oestrogen.

Another twitcher here as well - legs fingers toes! Thankfully most symptoms  all settled after Mirena and Sandrena - although I'm not quite there yet 😬

Thanks for your replies, I've learned a lot from reading through the posts on here the only person I talk to about my aches/flushes is my hubby and bless him he's so good but obviously has no idea what it's like, none of my friends seem to be going through this or they just don't want to talk about it but I feel I need too even if it's just to say "I feel rubbish today" I know we are all through it here and it's good to have somewhere I can ask questions or just have a chat about anything menopause because I really feel that I need it xx
