New Kid on the Block

Hi,

I started on HRT on Thursday and I just wondered when I would feel better? My sleep has improved but I still have meltdowns over the most trivial of things, this morning for example, I had run out of fruit so I blamed my poor husband because we were supposed to go shopping last night and didn't because I had an evening meeting.

I'm working full time in a responsible job, doing a degree with the OU and I take an active role in Women's Freemasonry, all this coupled with menopause, I feel like I'm fighting a battle that I haven't a hope of winning. Some days I just want to curl up in a ball and cry. I see other women sailing through life and I try so hard to emulate them. I don't want to be the blubbing mess that I feel I've become.

Thanks for reading.

Nina1204 - welcome to MM

Very early days for you yet. If you are peri meno then fluctuating hormones will bring the ups and downs and it may take a few weeks for the HRT to balance things out.  If you are post meno then it will take time for the HRT to build the hormones and for these hormones to restore the balance.  No quick fixes I'm afraid - but it's great that you are already sleeping better as this is a great start.  Sleep disturbance plays havoc with ones mental state - anxiety and irritability are the result.

We are all different, experience meno differently and respond to HRT differently - be patient, have a look at lifestyle in terms of diet and exercise and adopt some relaxation techniques.  Don't judge yourself against others - you are clearly a very positive person, so things will improve over the next few weeks I'm sure.
WE are here to support you - read up all the info on this site to get clued up and keep posting.  DG x

Crikey you've a lot going ON!

:welcomemm:  HRT isn't a miracle instant 'cure'.  Do read round.  Make notes.  Some ladies find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary useful.

Hello Nina1204 and welcome to the forum.

Dancinggirl has given you some great advice and I agree that sleep disturbance causes many physical and mental problems, it's a well known form of torture after all!

I am also guilty of assuming that everyone copes better than me, even when I know this isn't true and when I'm having a good day I'm sure other women think the same of me, it's just that they don't see me when I'm struggling.

Wishing you well.

Hi Nina1204

:welcomemm: from me too. Your picture gave me a shock because it's the same as Emma's the Moderator/Admin of this forum - what  a coincidence eh?!

Also how old are you and where in menopause eg are your periods few and far between or still fairly regular, and what HRT type are you taking? As Dancinggirl says this will affect how you respond to HRT. Flushes and sweats are usually the first to disappear - and often within days especially with patch HRT. Other symptoms can take a while. I blubbed a lot and also didn't know this was due to menopause which I naively thought was just irregular periods, flushes and sweats! Try not to worry about the blubbing as it is so perfectly normal although it can be inconvenient (it kept happening to me at work!!).

I hope you feel much better soon as the HRT  gets into your system. Come back to us if you need any more help or just to chat :)

Hi Hurdity,

I think I'd better change my pic, I don't want to shock people ;D I'm 47 and I haven't had proper period since 2014, nothing at all in the last 14 months and I'd only had two incidents of spotting in the 12 months prior to that. I'm taking the Elleste Duet Conti.

I had a really good day yesterday but I've had another meltdown this morning. I'm struggling today, I've had computer problems, a load of work disappeared from a spreadsheet so I had to do it all again, somebody else needed me to redo a pile of reports because they'd made a mistake on them, then I got a bad grade on my assignment. It all sounds so trivial when I put it down but it felt like such a massive deal when it was happening.

Hi Kathleen,

Thank you for the warm welcome, it feels good to know that it's not just me :)

Hi CLKD,

Yeah, sometimes I feel like I'm spreading myself a bit thin, something is bound to give one of these days! :)

Hi Dancinggirl,

My diet is quite good, I've been on the Slimming World plan since February so it's pretty well balanced. I'm at target so my BMI is ok, apparently. I do struggle with switching off and I could do with learning some meditation techniques. I'll keep reading up on things and try to get my head around everything.

I feel much better after reading all of your comments, thank you so much for your support. I really appreciate it
