bleeding after six months of nothing
« on: November 13, 2017, 07:17:35 PM »

Hi Ladies, I'm new here, not sure if I'm posting in the right place!! I have not had a period for six months, absolutely nothing, I thought I had cracked it, then last week I started to bleed, it's not heavy and more like the brownish colour you get at the start and end of a period, but I'm just wondering if this is normal after six months of nothing? Anybody throw any light on this? Thank you

Hello cupcake.

Yep, that's exactly what happened to me. I had regular and fairly heavy periods and then nothing for six months. I then thought another period was starting but all I had was the brownish staining that often appears at the beginning of a bleed and it never progressed further than that. That episode was my last proper period and twelve months later I was officially post menopausal. This could be your body's last hurrah!

Hope this helps and take care.

K.

Hi cupcake44 - yes this sounds normal for peri menopause. It happened to me too - nine months without a period and then regular ones started up again then six months without followed by months of regular ones.....

Lots of support and friendship on here.

Hi and welcome cupcake44
Peri menopause is challenging. The body often doesn't know whether it's coming or going - no two women experience the same but erratic bleeding with periods stopping and starting, longer or shorter bleeds, lighter or much heavier bleeds, are all typical.  Nobody prepares us for this stage in our lives so it can be a baffling and sometimes frightening time.
A low dose of HRT can balance things if the flushes etc are causing problems. DG x

Thank you all for your replies, they've put my mind at rest. I guess I will just have to hold on tight and ride out this peri phase!! It's nice to know there is somewhere to come for advice, thanks again C xx
