Patch is on!

One query though, it was a bit rushed my appointment, though Doc was great, but she has asked me to consider the Mirena Coil and to call for an appointment soon.  Does this mean she will change my patches once I have the coil fitted? Came out slightly confused. Am on FemSevern Sequi ( I have normal period ), have only missed one in the last year but PMT has been through the roof and all the usual peri symptoms so felt I needed to get some help.

Two years ago I tried Elleste Duet but found it gave me terrible periods and pain so I came off it and just got on with it for two years....

Am excersising  more, take supplements, doing everything I can to alleviate this shit time!

So back on this site, so comforting to read and feel am not going crazy!

Try these patches to see how you get on.  If they suit you and the withdrawal bleed isn't too bad, then continue with this HRT type - it does work for many women really well.  These patches are medium dose and if you are still peri then they could be a bit strong - see how it goes.
If you suffered bad periods previously on HRT then the Mirena can be a really good option. The Mirena, both in peri and post menopause, is often recommended as it will protect the womb lining really well (prevent the lining from building up and causing erratic or heavy bleeding), it also provides contraception through the peri stage and will often result in no bleeding at all after the first few weeks or months.  Once the Mirena is in place, you can simply use oestrogen only patches or Oestrogel, in any dosage, to control meno symptoms. Some find the initial progesterone hit from the Mirena can bring some side effects but once over this time, you then have 4 years of relatively few issues.

There are pluses and minuses with all things - its about finding the most benefits with the least side effects.

Hi Hunnymummy - welcome back.

Just to say that I got on well with FemSeven sequi (apart from the fact they don't always stick too well) but the first three bleeds were quite heavy and painful. After that they evened out and lasted around three days with no pain. It can take three months to settle on any HRT. I'm not sure how long you tried the other one for?

Been using the femseven patches
for a while. wee tip for you. Take a hair dryer and gently warm your skin before adding the patch. Hold it with your palm for a minute or so and they should stick no problem. ive never lost one yet doing this. Best of luck!

Thanks for the tips and explanation too.  The patch stuck well on day one... But day two now into the evening have noticed a little edge coming free so will see how long it takes !

I did not give Elleste Duet long enough to be honest... So this time I am going to give this HRT  a better go... And I will make my Coil appointment soon and give it all a go.

My periods have never been too bad, five days lasting, but in this last two yrs (am 50 now) I have noticed my PMT is through the roof so the doctor thought that by trying the coil it may help me. ( though I no longer need contraception as my husband had the op), mind you it's the last thing on my mind too, yes libido is at an all time low! along with all the normal peri symptoms!

Ok will give it all a try and will be prepared for a few hit and miss months to begin with.

The only problem with this is that you might not get a full dose of the hormones. They are contained in the adhesive so if the patch is not stuck to your skin the hormones aren't released. It's a really annoying problem with these patches and one which the manufacturers have so far failed to acknowledge!

Hello Hunnymummy,

I had real problems with Femseven sequi patches, I could never get them to stick, and then developed a really nasty reaction to them - all red, sore and itchy. I switched to Evorel sequi and found they stuck way better, although they also caused a reaction after a while. If you do have the mirena fitted and only need oestrogen patches, I would really recommend Estradot - I'm using the 100mcg - half the size of other patches, stick really well, and no allergic reaction.
