Hi Edinbetty

You made it!!!
Firstly please do not worry about others' apparent ability on here - we all had to start from somewhere! I knew almost nothing about menopause when I joined! Also some of us are a bit longer in the tooth ie in our 60's and more so have been doing it for some time - but hopefully we can pass on some of our experience, suggestions as well as support to others. In fact everyone supports each other however old or young we are and wherever we are in menopause. So great that you have taken the plunge at last - and apologies on behalf of all of us if you felt in any way put off before now!!!
Secondly so sorry to hear how you feel but this is absolutely normal (for menopause) as are the questions you are asking.
HRT is most definitely the recommended treatment for the menopausal symptoms you are experiencing and the best place to start. I was about your age when I started HRT and almost the same stage. I was just under 54 and in late peri-menopause and was given Evorel sequi. I tried it for 3 months and like you it worked on flushes and sweats pretty quickly. Don't worry about having stopped - unless there is a medical reason why not it is perfectly alright just to start again now.
Your doc has given you a good combo. At this stage ( after changing from Evorel sequi) I went onto 50 mcg patches with separate progesterone ( utrogestan wasn't available then). Because I wasn't post-menopausal I still took it cyclically which suited me fine. You might want to think about doing this too ie cyclically (discuss with your doc) so that you can see how you feel on the progesterone phase. This is because progesterone can be a depressive and makes you tired ( it makes me tired when I'm on that part). If you choose to take it like this then the licensed dose is 200 mg for 12 days. I was prescribed it for 11 days per 28 (with a different progesterone) when I was in my 50's. Taking it vaginally minimises side effects - and some research suggests that lower than licensed doses can be used - but will need to discuss with doc?
There is a thread ( in this section ) called oestrogel and utrogestan support thread or something similar with thousands of posts and lots of pages - which will tell you a lot about utrogestan regimes.
There is no need to soldier on - you are still young. The first thing is to start to feel better physically (and your skin will improve!), and then you can take steps to feel better about yourself - hair, clothes, diet, and the rest so you do not feel invisible and you feel like going out again. You have years ahead of you hopefully so make a start now to get yourself on track. We are here to support you on your way.
This is a bit of a ramble as it's getting late - I started to write earlier but then went off to watch a drama on TV but wanted to reply as I said I would on your other thread!!
If you've got to the end - hope it's helpful but do ask anything else if you need to!!

Here's to a new you
