Bleeding while on Evorel Conti patches
« on: September 15, 2017, 11:46:02 AM »

Hi a new member here looking for some advice.

I am 52 and not had a natural period for about 4 years.  I went on Evorel Conti patches at the end of May after a spell without HRT and have had no problems at all until Wednesday when out of the blue I started a period.  It's very bright red blood.

I have read on the leaflet that it's normal to have bleeding initially but it seems strange after 4 months?

Anyone else experienced this?

Hi alibabs1965

 :welcomemm:

If you haven't had a period for 4 years ( have you been on HRT though?) then it could be that your womb lining was very thin so the initial bleeding and spotting many women experience is happening a bit later. The other alternative is that the endometrial lining has atrophied as an over-thin lining can also cause bleeding - not sure whether this would be bright red blood though, like a period, or spotting?

Did you have fibroids or anything like that when you were menstruating?

Personally in your position I would actually consult your doctor - just to get checked out and to be on the safe side. It could just be that the oestrogen is a bit too high for the progestogen in your case - leading to a build up of lining. If this turned out to be the case then a change in HRT would ensure your lining was protected. Whatever it is - maybe your doc will suggest a scan and then take it from there?

Let us know what you decide and the outcome as it is all helpful for others to read.

Are you feeling better generally on the HRT, apart from the bleeding?

I have been on HRT before was on oestrogen only patches and mirena coil for a couple of years and then on elleste duet for another year where i had a monthly bleed but most recently had almost a year without HRT and trying herbal remedies.  Unfortunately I couldn't cope with the flushes and mood swings so went onto Evorel Conti.

They have been fantastic until now got rid of flushes and mood swings right away.

Still bleeding and have had pelvic pain so going to doctors on Monday. He's not really very sympathetic though and wants you out as quick as possible!

Will post how I get on.

I went to the docs and he has referred me to the gynacologist.  He said all post menopausal bleeding needs to be investigated.

Hi alibabs - you might not actually be post-menopausal officially if you went without HRT or a period for less than a year - it could still be the last gasp of ovarian function. You are still only now at the average age of menopause so perfectly feasible not to be post-meno yet. If your periods stopped on the Mirena then you wouldn't know whether you were at menopause or not, and then when you were on the Elleste Duet - you would have had a regular bleed (I presume) but not know how much, if any, was due to your own cycle, and how much from the HRT.

It is good that you are being investigated but it could well be something like I mentioned or the lining could have thickened at some point and not been shed until now. I expect you will be fast-tracked which is the normal procedure for PMB. I presume you are still on the patches and haven't been told to stop?

Hopefully all will be OK. Try not to worry in the meantime and do let us know the outcome.
