Is this heartburn??
« on: September 14, 2017, 07:14:14 PM »

Hi guys, about an hour ago I had an awful pain come on, right in the middle of my chest where your bra goes across the middle. I hadn't eaten anything and was actually really busy concentrating on decorating a cake so don't think it's anxiety! There's no burning or acid but my back is killing me between the shoulder blades (although that was there before the chest pain!). I'm guessing this is heartburn?? I thought I'd had heart burn before but now I think before it was just acid burning my throat, or is it all the same thing?? its not better or worse by moving and a few Rennies have made no different. Thanks guys x

Possibly a gallbladder attack. Before having my gallbladder out the pain felt like a someone crushing me from behind and squeezing me  under my breast accompanied with pain in my back. Just a thought. Until diagnosed I was also popping gaviscon pills like no tomorrow.

Was the pain directly in the middle of your chest? And where was the back pain?

Could be g/b, heartburn, reflux, posture, very hard to know.  Had you not eaten for a while?  I have to eat little and often otherwise I get heartburn.  How is it now?
Hi Sparkle, I thought you always got heartburn after you'd eaten? I'm so new to all this, I know nothing!!!! It's just the same really, it doesnt hurt to touch the area and nothing much changes the level of pain but yes I guess it had been a while since I'd eaten. If anything my back hurts as much as my chest now!

Not always KAH, lack of food means the acid has nothing to work on so causes pain but equally you can have it after eating!  Hence it's better to eat little and often, for me anyway.

So if I have something to eat will it ease the pain do you think, or make it worse?  Mines definitely central pain both in chest & back x

I would try something small and light if you can and see how you feel.

Thank you Sparkle xx

It eased off after a couple of hours, thank you. It still feels slightly tender in that spot, is that normal. Beside myself with anxiety as you can probably tell!

Have you tried pain killers? Although I have had my gallbladder out I still suffer mild pain now and again specially if I haven't eaten for a while, painkillers certainly help for me.

I get something similar. Started about 2 years ago when peri started. Been to several GPs about it and they all say its increased gas linked to anxiety and / or hormones interfering with digestion. Mine gets better ifI do a big burp like a drain! One GP gave me Ranititdine which really helps...an anti inflamatory I think. ( Omeprazole made it worse). Had an upper body untrasound for something else which showed no gall stones or anything weird.   Have also been told not to bolt me food, chew properly before swallowing, stay off things that flare it up like pizza/fried foods/bread /wine..maybe yeasty foods. Also to drink after eating no  with and don't chug the drink!  I find mine comes and goes every 4-6 weeks so I do think hormones play a part or the anxiety that comes with it. My oesteopath thinks it is like a pinched or squeezed nerve that controls stomach emptying which is stimulated by the excess gas.
