mirena - 6 months on
« on: September 06, 2017, 04:23:40 PM »

Hi - I had the coil fitted in March - this was at the same time as an operation to remove a polyps which was bleeding quite a lot. In terms of how I feel generally its been great.(I also have an hrt patch) Sleeping well, energy, mood good and sex life - well - libido is fine but I get stomache ache the day after, and sometimes it lasts up to a week. Its fairly mild, but I went to get checked in case the mirena had slipped or something but I was assured it all looked fine. The stomache aches have been getting more frequent and uncomfortable so I have been back to the GP again who has now booked me in for a scan. Has anyone else had this? Maybe I should just get it removed and try something else. of course it may not be the coil thats causing the aches, but it is a coincidence. I'm worrying about this now as it looks like its not going to 'settle' like I was told.

Thanks for any advice or help x

I got stomach cramps with most HRT types. It is still early days for you with the Mirena so it may settle more over the next few months.
I had the Mirena for 4 years and it was the HRT regime that caused the least hassle and side effects in comparison to any other HRT combo.
I always viewed any slight period cramps as a good thing - the progesterone was working in my uterus and keeping it safe. DG x

Thank you dancing girl...I have been to the GP about this several times...not once did she mention that it could be mimicking period cramps. She's supposed to be the practice expert on anything hormonal. I will try and wait and see what the scan results are before deciding to have it removed. I did think though that by 6 months it would have sorted itself. X

I got episodes of cramps throughout my time with the Mirena and when I took any HRT regime I got cramps as well. I just think the uterus reacts more in some women. I suffered terrible period pains before I went in the Pill - the craps only reduced in severity after I had my first baby.
As long as the cramps are not too much of a nuisance, if you are generally feeling good with this HRT combo then I would keep with it - most treatments have some side effects. DG x
