More positive GP appt. today
« on: August 25, 2017, 01:17:03 PM »

Had an appt. with the newish GP whom I like today.

She agreed to a new thyroid blood test and to then consider the option of a trial dose increase to see if it helps. She also mentioned menopause as a possible cause of my symptoms so I grabbed the opportunity to say that I wanted to look at that. I mentioned that the practice had appeared to be unenthusiastic about prescribing HRT on past visits but she seemed willing and said that it was being used more now.
I will make another appointment with her once the blood test results are available.

If you find a GP you like and have confidence in then stick with them if you can ;)

Peri menopause played merry havoc with my thyroid condition but once I became post meno it settled down again.  I had to constantly change my thyroxine dose for about 4 years ::)

At last!  Someone is listening  :).  Let us know how you get on?

Well done on pushing for what you require.

I am already post meno (last period 3.5 years ago) but one of the key symptoms which I mentioned to her is still there (aching calves/sole of feet and also burning soles of feet). It first developed just as my periods were getting lighter and less frequent (2009).

I just hope that this GP stays at the practice. There was another quite good one but she left. If I try HRT, it has to allow for me taking Tegretol. Previously it was impossible to request an appt. with a named GP. Bookings were only done up to 7 days ahead and we had to go through the receptionist who gave no choice. Now I can book non urgent ones online and look to see who is on duty.

That's great news Katejo, I'm The same here I have a fab GP and I really do hope she stays, to be fair I've seen two other female doctors and they are both brilliant. On-line booking is so much easier!
